A Bit Of background Info
Earlier this year I had a few weeks off work due to an injury looking for something to do I booted up my old computer 2009 vintage and found Links2003 in a cupboard it worked but only in a small window after much faffing about I got it to work full screen. Stuck with links course (my old files had long gone) I remembered Links Corner. trip down to the local library; I have no internet or smart phone; and there you were after 20 years AMAZING. Started downloading my old favourites including Torres Del Paine which I designed all those years ago. Unfortunately most of them didn't work but kept trying and found the links 1.07 patch and Eureka all of them worked including the HD's. Had a whale of a time rediscovering old favourites and new gems ; ended up with 150 but have cut to 80; found big sexy's Anis all the pro golfers you could ever want. Then i stumbled across Animasters brilliant ANI's of non pro golfers.
I wondered if I could design one I started with Johnny Cash simple the man in black and June Carter Cash then Doris Day and Dolly Parton. Progressing every time designing new and more varied apparel. The process is long and tedious; but somewhat addictive; but unlike course design the end product can be quickly played and modified. Some things I learned the hard way 1. Copy the polyani file from links to my documents alongside your ani files. The golf utility will open files from there and saves much time looking for folders to save and extract too, also the finished ANI will not be locked and can be viewed and moved. 2. Before creating apparel make template of coloured symbols (arrows hearts etc ) so you can see which part of the anatomy is located in 2D. Not perfect but cuts down on lots of trial and error.
Next I thought of Billy Connolly and had to be more creative I also started playing with faces and hair texture. The Scottish theme progressed from there and I have completed m first batch hope you like them.
I used the links ANI's Eric Heather and Russell for all except Billy Connolly (young Tom Morris) I can't manipulate ANI's like Big Sexy or Animasters and they don't let you extract their files (except Young Tom Morris). Big sexy's BMP files are good for cutting and pasting hair textures and facial features.
I Know graphically I will never be as good as them I am using a 20-year old version of photoshop in French (not Fluent) and running on Windows 7. Am learning all the time and my photoshop skills are improving. Best of all I am enjoying the process and seeing the end result sometimes old school is the best. I only started doing this 2 weeks ago amazing what you can do in a fortnight. To be continued I have many more ideas.
A big thanks to all at Links Corner for providing an invaluable resource bringing much fun and enjoyment to all who love Links 2003.
