True Blue Issues

Post by GoBucks »

This post is part of the "my apologies" thread. I wanted to add to pmgolf's post, but in a separate thread.

viewtopic.php?p=23983#p23983

The version that Pete is referring to was the first final version that you released on 6/19, not the "HP-Fix" version released on the 21st. My crash happened after completing 3 rounds in a tournament of Pete's. As i hit my putt on the first hole of the fourth round it crashed with an error message. I was given the opportunity to resume where I left off, but crashed on several attempts to do so. Some other players crashed at various spots in the event. Pete said he crashed several times ( while setting up the event? ) but was able to resume.
I mainly wanted to clarify which version was being used, and that my issues and those of others were during an on-line Links Tour event. I'm assuming that the issues Pete had were in practice mode, but that is only an assumption.

This is the error I get, and I can get it 100% of the time, just for getting a screen redraw as I described.

Is this from a crash or something different?

As I stated in my post, I crashed in the 4th round of your event. And that looks like the message that I got.

I have not tried the original final version of the course that GoBucks mentioned, I cant get the course to crash on 1st green with the "True Blue Golf Club - HP Fix.crz " version currently available for download. I opened it in APCD, I think all the reflective water seems flat, so that probably isnt the issue. The only thing I can see which I could speculate might be the cause, is that the course's mesh is fractured into separate non-connecting parts, with the core mesh having a couple holes in it, with patches of separate mesh made to cover them, partially overlapping the core mesh at a different height. Same thing with a framing mesh around the outer border of the core mesh. It seems deliberately made, possibly to increase the plot size and to avoid having black areas showing in the top cam. The sparse verts and in some cases lack of sharp edges on the pieces of patch and frame mesh causes the very large texture faces to glitch out a bit visually, but I dont know if that would cause crashes. On one hand, I feel like Links should be able to handle it, having separate pieces of mesh is very common with custom 3D (though perhaps not with holes in the core mesh), and large texture faces being somewhat glitchy isnt too rare to see on fully functional courses either. On the other hand, I dont know what else it could be, unless it was just an issue with the previous version.

There is a vert used for a seam blend that is below the level of the reflective water. It would be rendered in Pete's screenshot.

Here is a course that I might have fixed the errors. See what happens.

I checked it out in the game. The game no longer crashes when looking back down the fairway on #1. Kudos Sage and Adelade!

It was Linksters tip about the vert below the waterline that did it......................Plus I made sure all the other verts were above the waterline Where it mattered. And I flattened all bodies of water.

Glad it worked out.

Please anyone else that was having problems let me know your issues is fixed also.

Then I will upload the fixed course.

Hey,

it runs fine here too.

Strangely enough, I didn't experience any crashes with the older betas either. :dunno:

Same with my rounds in practice mode or in online matches.
