Post by sagevanni »

Is there such a thing out there.......APCD 2001 version .....?????? With all the 2001 lib objects...????? And if so would courses designed in it open in Links 2003.....?????

I would design exclusively in 2001 version if it's out there somewhere......

Hi Sage, I think the 2001 version would be on the Links 2001 CDs. Geez, I may even have those lying around my house somewhere...and yes if I remember correctly they were .crz files too so they opened in Links 2003. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone here remembers way better than me. Hard to believe I've been hanging around this game and these sites for so damn long!

I think both apcd course design apps were similar but the 2003 could use the higher resolution textures. I might be wrong on this but the 2003 one allowed you to import your own tree and other objects where in the 2001 you couldn't.
I'm sure a designer who has used both could chime in with more info.
I'm sure that all the previous forum posts about this are probably gone.
I still have the Links 2001 discs too.

Sage, I believe Cougar is correct. The 2001 APCD can only use the 512x512 low-res textures. I believe the new 2003 APCD was created to be able to handle the hi-res textures.
Completed Courses
Real Courses: The National Golf Club of Kansas City - Wakonda Club - Coeur d'Alene Resort Course
Fictitious Courses: Northern Lakes - Golfcom Tees
Southern Oaks - Hometown 9 hole real course with a fictitious back 9 added

To answer your question about 2001 courses opening in Links 2003, Im able to open courses that was uploaded in 2001 at least. I dont think seam blending existed in 2001 APCD, and I think I heard about panoramas having some limitation too. I was going to say I dont think hole previews existed either, but that must be false because at least one user-made course made in 2001 has them. Would be interesting to hear about your experiences with it if you try it out Sage.
Finished Courses - Main: Amedal (fictional), Nine Bridges (real)
Other: Austin, Sheshan, Kauri Cliffs, Le Golf Nat. Updates: Whirlpool, Royal Lytham, Royal St George's, Chicago, Chambers Bay, Munchen Nord E
Working on: 2 fictional courses + a couple things...

As stated above, 2001 won’t support hi rez textures and there is no seam blending. That to me is a why I wouldn’t advise using it. Seam blending makes all the difference in realistic looking courses. I can set you up with a download if you still want to try it out.
