I am busy with Pelican Hill North and South and it is the first coastal course I have built. When I used the APCD Ocean panorama and the APCD ocean texture therewas a slight mismatch with the colour. I have tried to modify a water texture to get the correct colour match, but there is still a slight mismatch, see below: (If you open image in new window the mismatch is more obvious.)
Is there a better ocean/water texture that matches the colour better, and if so will you let me use it?
Thank you.

Re: Ocean texture to match Ocean panorama
Ian, have you tried the water textures from Kapa'a Golf Resort and Spa or Anakena Beach? I'm sure I used Anakena water textures on my course Kapu Moku.
Re: Ocean texture to match Ocean panorama
Hi, Ian........I always thought that the water texture used on the upgraded Kauri Cliffs, were very nice. Great color, and look of the waves, etc.
I'm not a designer, as you know, but I'll still offer up an opinion or two when it comes to textures, planting etc.
Good luck, and I'm looking forward to Pelican Hill. I can see you're taking your time and extra effort to make it a great course.

Stephen,
I have downloaded the courses but I can't open either of them in extender. I must have a problem with Extender. I downloaded a new copy from this site and that didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion.
Ron,
It's the same comment for Kauri Cliffs.
I am busy with Pelican Hill but I have suspended the work as I overdid the work and I had a very painful shoulder, from not using my mouse correctly, so the work in APCD will have to wait a day or two.
The Pelican Hill resort is located in one .CRZ.
The layouts of both the North and South courses including (all) seam blends are complete(?), and all 37 greens are contoured. The South course includes the planted tees and pins. I have checked the south course and added the shapes to be used for planting up to the 13th.
After completing the check on the remaining 5 holes of the South course i will repeat the process for the North course. Then I have to complete the planting of all the trees and bushes on both courses. Finally, the 3D buildings that I feel are necessary.
Only then, I can create a separate file for each course. I plan to issue the South course first, and any comments received that are pertinent to the north course will be included before it is issued.
I am sure that the above was not what you were asking for, but it allowed me to think out loud.

Stephen,
I forgot that Lez posted all his textures and I have it on file. Unfortunately the Anakena Beach texture doesn't match the Panorama.
If I can't find a better match I have no problems to issue the course with the one I have.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

Re: Ocean texture to match Ocean panorama
I have zipped the textures from Anakena and Kapa. The Kapa ones are by LeWaw https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/fokoyuva ... r9x4r&dl=0
Re: Ocean texture to match Ocean panorama
Stephen,
Thank you.
I will try the texture from LeWaw later. as mentioned in a previous post, the Anakena Beach texture colour doesn't match the Panorama I am using. The texture is good but it is matching the colour to the Panorama Ocean that is my problem.
The surf and the beach line is unimportant as from the golf course only the horizon is visible.
Thanks again.
Ian
Edit. I tried the LeWaw texture and it does not match. Again the txture is nice but, no colour match. Thanks.
Thank you.

I recommend replacing the colour of the ocean in the pano so it matches the colour of the texture.
- Reduce the size of the texture to about 128 x 128 (maybe 64 x 64)
- Select the colour-picker in GIMP then click somewhere on the reduced texture
- Use that new colour to paint all of the ocean parts of the pano
You will need probably need to play around with the texture resolution, and maybe with some of the shade variations within the texture, but you will eventually strike upon a perfect match.
Completed: Golf Club of Houston (Redstone); Banff Springs 2025 (Thompson 18 and Tunnel Mountain); Mauna Kea 2024; Royal Sydney Golf Club (2025); New South Wales Golf Course (2026). Currently working on a real Scottish links course.
Re: Ocean texture to match Ocean panorama
It is usually much easier to modify a texture than to modify a panorama, since panoramas get compressed a lot and dont have a wide range of available colours.
Main Courses made: Amedal (fict), Nine Bridges (real)
Other: Austin, Sheshan, Kauri Cliffs, Le Golf, Shadow Creek Updates: Whirlpool, Royal Lytham, Royal St George's, Chicago, Chambers Bay, Munchen Nord E
Working on: 2 fict courses + some things...

Re: Ocean texture to match Ocean panorama
Colin,
I am well, thank you.
I tried to modify the texture colour by using the colour picker on an image from Links, but it still wasn't a match. I modified the colour in small increments using Curves in GIMP, and the image I posted is the best that I can achieve.
I, wrongly, assumed that as the panorama was an APCD standard that many designers would have a matching texture.
As I posted earlier I will have no problem using the texture I have.
Adelade,
Nice to hear form you, hope all is well?
Thanks for your time guys.

it is a standard APCD panorama and I am unable to extract any details using Extender, so I don't have the image to edit.I recommend replacing the colour of the ocean in the pano so it matches the colour of the texture.
