The old Top Cam issues with a twist

Post by JimmyME »

System: I7-4790K processor, 32GB Ram, Windows 10 Home 64bit, Radeon 6700XT video card with AMD adrenaline control software, SSD drives

BTW, I play Powerstroke swing which is a factor

Issue: little or no aiming marker or ball flight in Top Cam when not using dgvoodoo

When using the dgvoodoo wrapper, the game works perfect in all aspects EXCEPT I get random, crazy swing glitches with powerstroke that is frustrating and affects my scoring.

When using the 6700XT and no dgvoodoo, the game works perfect in all aspects EXCEPT no aiming marker or ball flight in the Top Cam. There are little areas in the top cam where the aiming marker will show then disappear. The powerstroke swing however is great with no glitches. If I turn on AA in the AMD adrenaline software, the Top Cam then works perfectly, but guess what? the grid steps on the green get blurred out. I use the grid steps to assist with aiming the putts. BTW, I've added the video card hex code to the videocard.txt file.

So I'm stuck with using dgvoodoo with a wacky powerstroke swing but the Top Cam is perfect, or using the Radeon 6700XT with a perfect swing with no issues but no aiming marker or ball flight in the Top Cam. As I mentioned, I can turn on anti aliasing and for some reason that makes the Top Cam work right but then it anti-aliases the darn green grid steps out and I can't use it for putting.

At this point I'm opting for the 6700XT with a properly functioning swing meter but no aiming marker or ball flight in the Top Cam. I thought I'd post this in case someone may have had the same problem. BTW, when using dgvoodoo, I tried almost everything under the sun to get rid of the glitches in the powerstroke swing to no avail. (unhook other USB, no power saving mode for game, etc. etc.)

I've been playing computer golf since Mean 18 in the late 80's or early 90's and then all versions of Links. Was on the Links Tour, enjoyed Bub's News, all the stuff from back in the day.

I'm glad others still enjoy Links and am amazed that new, great courses are still being created.

Once you have install the 1.07 update and the so called Nvidia patch, which does more than just correct an Nvidia crash, there is not too much you can do in Links. One thing I have seen is different resolutions can have an impact, for example I see some that result in the disappearing golfer this has been observed in the WXGA family of resolutions.

From a dgVoodoo point of view you could hunt around and try different versions. The version given here is 2.7. I have used 2.55 which seems quite good and you may like to try a late version is the 2.7 series, like 2.79. These versions can be found, but not on the developers site.

You could also try some in the 2.8 series which are mostly available on the developers site
