It is a little dated as I do things a bit differently but anyone who uses GIS programs would likely have a different way of getting to the same result. It is the concepts of how to work with all the possible data sources that matters.
I've repaired the link in the opening post of this topic just to make life easier for new visitors. Could you possibly replace the two png files in one of your follow-up posts?

I didn't have the original .png images I used in that post but I made new ones. Going forward I will now edit my posts to re-add old attachments. Thanks for keeping me straight Andy!

I don't think LIDAR suits my area in Australia. I tried Google Earth Pro and created a kmz file and have converted to a gpx file. But when I tried putting it in QGIS the Vector didn't have an option for contour. Is anyone able to help with this?

There are some areas of Australia with high quality 1m DEM's. I did a couple of course import requests from here.

This is the data source I used:

Hi owntor!

QGIS will convert a .tif to a .dem as a raster conversion (raster - conversion - translate). However, this function got depreciated around QGIS version 3.40. I now stick to QGIS version 3.38.3 to keep this function.

There is also the website MyGeodata Converter (https://mygeodata.cloud/) that will do a .tif to .dem conversion as well. I think you will have to pay if you want to convert numerous large files but the free settings will handle enough for the APCD.

The file conversion process is fairly simple, but getting a DEM that is useful and applicable to the APCD takes some work in QGIS and some modification of settings in the DEM file header.
