Designers,
I had to share this with you as I've been testing it. For the price this is an absolute no doubter tool for you to use when building courses. The time and work it will save you is almost immeasurable. These two screenshots are of the exact same view of the course I'm working on in my designer. One is a Google Earth image of the neighborhood how it wraps around a lake and the other is from within my designer. You will notice this is the exact same houses. These are NOT 3d objects that I've placed.
Linkster mentioned being able to get these to .OBJ format so you could use them in Links and that is 100% possible. I am doing this with the BLOSM tool for Blender. Blender is free and BLOSM was $20 (US), but with the time it will save you it will pay for itself on the first course you use it on. If there is interest I can go over the workflow to tell you how to get these, but the short version is you import a 3d model of any neighborhood or building using the BLOSM tool in Blender. Once you get the 3d model in Blender you cut out of the parts you don't want or need and then I export it as a GLB file, but you could just as easily export it to an OBJ file if that's what's necessary for Links.
I just know I've seen Sage mention the pain in the ass that neighborhoods and houses are and this solves that. Also, I brought in the Sawgrass, Augusta, Shinnecock and several other clubhouses and they look incredible in my designer/game. I know Ian and Colin (among others) are incredibly good at 3d work, but for those of us less talented at the art side of course design this is a life saver.
If you are interested in learning more about it just let me know.

Re: BLOSM Tool for Blender
Fantastic! Amazing! Congrats and thanks for doing this.
I really enjoy creating 3D buildings in the APCD and I think I have some solid skills. Yes, it takes time. But now I know what I'm doing, it probably doesn't take me as long as people might think either. I have gotten a real sense of accomplishment with the detailed clubhouses I did at Banff and Sydney in particular. They were projects within projects.
But I ain't no masochist either! Have always thought that if a quick 2D image would do the job, then that's what I'd always do in preference to the extra time it takes to build 3D. If there's a way of saving time on any part of building a course, then I'm in for it. And I have certainly avoided building courses where I would need to build alot of 3D houses.
So, yes please, let me know how to do this. I am sure I will use it.

Completed: Golf Club of Houston (Redstone); Banff Springs 2025 (Thompson 18 and Tunnel Mountain); Mauna Kea 2024; Royal Sydney Golf Club (2025); New South Wales Golf Course (2026). Currently working on a real Scottish links course.

JC,
That looks amazing and would improve any course that has houses and other buildings, which most new courses do.
Well done.
Ian

LOL a good friend of mine lives in that neighborhood. When I saw Southern Dunes I figured it was one in Florida and not the southside of Indy!
