Linux Mint here Sage.
FWIW while Links runs well on Linux, I did start APCD and found it did not run well, Links Extender just has problems and crashes out on me.
Links and Linux
Re: Links and Linux
Thanks dwg....
I used to run Mint for a long time.
I love Linux.....
When I started playing games again I had to switch back to windows. I'm thinking of putting Mint back on my backup laptop.

If there is one thing ................ummmmmmmm.......I can't remember.
Re: Links and Linux
I put Linux on my retired Windows machines, so Linux is now on the notebook and desktop that previously had Windows 10 on them. They run quicker and better with Linux on them than they ever did with Windows.

Re: Links and Linux
Sage,
I was running MX Linux on old laptops with limited hardware (c. 2006) and wasn't able to get Links running at all. I switched to Linux Mint after Windows 10 support ended (dual booting, but very rarely boot to Windows) and still had issues, although I'm no longer as patient as Des seems to be in trying all the various options and wrappers! I ended up using AI to get Links 2003 installed under Linux using the Steam software (where I run Perfect Golf and other games) and it runs pretty well. I can't saw flawlessly, since I think I've only ever played 9 holes since it was installed but it was without issue.
I think I was mainly just wondering if I could get it work somewhat easily in Linux!

Re: Links and Linux
I regularly use Links on Linux Mint these days and also test each new course on Linux as well.
Since overcoming a number of problems, mostly relating to the video on my notebook (which by the way also has the exact same problem under Windows 10 with Links, as I found out later), it has run perfectly. On my Linux desktop I never had any problems at all relating to video and Links, it is just a little slower being a Gen 3 i3.
You do have to get the installation done just right under Linux, Getting Windows Media Play installed is the biggest issue. You need Winetricks for that and you must set the Wine prefix up as a 32 bit prefix for that to work.
I have found that there is no advantage in using a wrapper on Linux at all, and most do not work in any case and this included the new DDrawCompat wrapper, it fails on Linux. In reality Wine is not only working as the Windows layer, but also as a wrapper.
For anyone that is curious the Linux DirectX wrapper has been compiled for use on Windows, and it has problems with Links there.
For the even more curious the APCD does install and it does run, but on my hardware at least, it is very slow and I would say unusable.
Links Extender crashes on Linux.
AniFactory however works fine, you will need to install that into a separate 64 bit prefix.
I do not know about having patience, but I was determined to get as much running as I could.
The goal I set myself with Linux was to be able to use it as much as possible as I would a Windows machine, so effectively they are interchangeable for me. There are a couple of things not there but I would say I am 90%+ of the way. Being a Firefox and LIbreOffice user before I started gave me a good head start with the goal
