Re: Links 2003 w/ Intel-Only Graphics or Intel + Nvidia Graphics - Solution Found
I have done a fair amount of testing of the DDrawCompat wrapper, this is the one Tweed & Whisky is referring to, with the Translucent golfer patch. My testing has not been focussed on antialiasing but on the operation of Links on the Windows + Intel GPU combination, so the very basics.
I have been using the wrapper from this thread since my return to Links on any machine I have that just has Intel embedded graphic under Windows.
I have encountered problems with a number of courses that would hang on the dgVoodoo configuration yet worked perfectly well with Windows + Nvidia (or Linux + Intel) and of course there is no translucent shadows, so it mostly worked, which is a lot more than I can say about the system without it, but was still a disappointment to me, I find in 2026 I use the notebook a lot, and a new notebook with Nvidia in it is not on the cards, well at least for some time. The courses I had a problem with were all 2003T courses.
With this wrapper I did test it with Anisotropic filtering and Antialiasing both turned on, so they are both active.
I am really pleased to be able to say it tested well. All courses that previous hung I was able to complete without any problems, also golfer translucent shadows work.
I now have a notebook that is as usable as my desktop for Windows, for those that follow my other posting Linux works well with Links with no wrapper, so I have 4 machines that can run Links.
For those that find the mouse movement a bit too hair trigger this wrapper offers settings that allow you to change the sensitivity, even with your bog standard mouse, that has no driver controls.
You can find DDrawCompat in the thread pointed to earlier. For those nervous about downloads is can also be pulled from the developer's Githib site, but it is not the current official 0.7.1 release, it is the release posted in the Antialiasing issue thread.
Fo information the developer's site is: https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat
It is a single DLL file and a .ini file. You will need a .ini file to set Anisotropic filtering and Antialiasing "on" and also to change mouse settings.
With just the DLL it should also work, just with default settings.
FWIW I have removed dgVoodoo ("The wrapper") from my notebook. I find this a superior solution.
