Links 2003: Nothing seems to help get it to run on my computer.

Post by dalbrech »

I have just about given up on getting Links 2003 to run on my Windows 11 computer.
When I try to start it, I get the Links splash photo then a black DOS like screen then crash to desktop.
I have tried almost all the solutions I have found on line; unplug all USB devices except for mouse and keyboard;trying various compatibility settings.I I have installed DG Voodoo and it did not help.
I went so far as buy the version of the game on the Links site, with all the courses. (My first installation was from my 2003 CDs),applied all the patches, still same result, splah screen, black box , CTD.
Nothing seems to work.
I wonder if the problem is not with the game per se, but will the introductory movie.
My Video Card is a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050.
I am hoping somebody can help me. Once again I really wonder if the problem is with the opening movie.
Thanks in Advance.

As far as I can tell the difference between the CD and online versions is that the online version has the 1.07 update applied, but not the so called Nvidia patch.

The splash screen showing and then nothing sounds to me like a resolution issue, What is the resolution of the system and what have you set Links to, if anything.

The maximum resolution of Links is 1920 x 1200 so anything higher will require scaling either by Links or by Nvidia, or the use of Windowed mode. It is likely to require some testing to see just what will and will not work, so you may well have to edit the registry to test some settings. I would also suggest choosing a Links resolution with an aspect ratio that matches your system for example 1920 x 1200 is 16:10 I would be avoiding that setting on a machine with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
