P2P Courses

Post by 5 wood »

If any of our Members have been on Links Corner long enough, they will remember the days of P2P. That is when the top Course designers of the day
would make their creations available through through Pay Pal for under 5 dollars. Many of those same course are still available on this site,
but for free, Thank You for that. Mike Jones, if memory serves me right, made his Catalogue of Course Textures available during these times.
I was wondering if anyone back then who was working with APCD, had burned to disc these files, tucked them away in a drawer, and has long since forgotten about them. Would it no be Great if they could be re-repost this collection of textures and make them available to the amazing Designer that we are lucky to have with us now. That future body of would be Over the Top.

Hey mate - I don't recall Mike's catalogue of textures ever being released here. Maybe on the old apcd-courses.com?
Completed: Golf Club of Houston (Redstone); Banff Springs 2025 (Thompson 18 and Tunnel Mountain); Mauna Kea 2024; Royal Sydney Golf Club.
Working on another Sydney course with an eye across the ditch too.

Colin, This would have been 23 years ago. I remember thinking these textures would be game changing for course designers,
but they never seem to get used. I could be mistaken about them being available, because at the time and still today they are fantastic.

Yep, those textures from the APCD Masters are all very old. I was able to extract and use the original TGAs:
Royal Sydney = Crooked Creek
Mauna Kea = Pilgrim Trails
Banff Springs = Cara Brae

That's just the terrain (rough, green, fairway and bunker) textures. The hundreds of other textures on these courses are mine. I'm VERY color-blind, so I need help, as it would be impossible for me to ever design a coherent set of terrain textures.

Neither of the boys worried too much about making good mids, so I was able to fix that and come up with improved sets. But all the real work is there's of course.

Texture makers were acknowledged, efforts were made to contact them. 2 messages to Wayne Hewett still sitting in my Outbox here - don't know where Mike J is. Mike once messaged me back in the day that he really liked Redstone and he'd design some textures for me if I ever wanted them - I was too starstruck to say yes! Just him liking something I did seemed more than enough. But I have belatedly taken him up on his offer.

Hey mate, you well?

NSW Golf is the certainly the most progressed of what I have. We cant get Barnbougle but I have Linkster DEMS for these 2 beauties:

https://www.thekinlochclub.com/

Not sure I can get to any tho. Maybe when I retire in 3 more years? :clapping:

Getting older is not always what it is cracked up to be :)

I was not aware of a Kinloch in NZ, we only have what two NZ courses, so I am sure any there would be welcomed. I did see there is only one Alister MacKenzie design in NZ.

Tasmania certainly has become a golf destination in recent years with the courses that have been developed there and also on King Island.

Barnbougle would be an eagerly sought course if a DEM ever becomes available, and now there are 3 courses there.

That Kinloch Club is a new one, and it looks great! The only one I knew of is in Virginia, and I'm working on the Linkster dem for that one.
