LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Another course by a new designer and he did an admirable job of matching the tee boxes, mowed fairways, roughs, greens and fringe quite well, there wasn't a first cut. This course, which looks more like a woodland course to me, has an attractive stream running throughout it that at times becomes large ponds for the purpose of being a water hazard. It fails as a hazard both as a stream and as a pond, to be a hazard at all. The fairways are very nice sized and are quite difficult to miss especially since the overwhelming amount of them have a few harmless bunkers and most are completely bunker-less. The greens are at least medium in size and graduate to large, a few of them have bunkers that are harmless and again many have none at all. The course certainly looks good especially for both a first attempt and for such a small download. He used a very attractive mixture of trees, bushes and brush. His bunkers didn't look like the usual first timer type they were quite good. Why did the ball washer, and hole sign disappear after the first hole, never to be seen again? They left the tee areas completely empty not only of objects but of trees or shrubbery of any kind at all.

He occasionally used some extreme elevations and when he did, which was seldom, the caddie seemed to work nicely. The wide or ample fairways with almost no protection at all were the type that made you want to tee up and swing from the heels and swing I did. I averaged over 288y in the fairways, that about 4y longer than my average on over 250 rounds and 5200 holes on this load of L2k1. His 4 par 5 holes were 550y, 556y, 597y, and 647y and they were as un-imaginative as the other holes on this course, all you would do was hit and putt. Putting, his greens were tiered, sloped and had nice breaks but were surprisingly easy.

This course need a condition setting not of windy, fast or difficult but one of 'horrendous weather conditions' to be challenging at all. The holes were mostly straight, simple, wide, safe, and flat. Easy comes to mind. He knows how to use the APCD very well, I didn't really see any terrible design errors anywhere on the course but a beta tester would have had a grand old time placing bunkers and other hazards for him. If he went to all of this trouble to build such a nice looking course why not go all the way and have someone with beta experience help him. I certainly would like to see him build another attractive fictional course with closed beta help. Would I tell you to download this course, well it certainly isn't unpleasant to look at, but not outstanding either. It's not challenging but a bit boring played under my testing conditions. At 12.3mb I would give her a try if you just like to play and you like to try something different rather than playing the same old same old over and over. It's playable (not heart stopping) and that's what I judge on.

Reviewer Note:
I am a player not a designer and therefore rate a course as a player for other players.
