I'm on another hiatus...........

Hi everyone,
I'm having major problems working on my current course ( Ballyneal Golf and Hunt Club ).
My computer can no longer handle the course.
I feel this will be a problem with any course I take on in the future.

I am looking into getting another computer that will run the APCD seamlessly. This will be a challenge.

Does anyone have a list of requirements for a computer that will run APCD at top speed?

Thanks everyone..................

Sage,

It may help if you narrow down the search.

Are you talking about a Desktop or a Notebook?

Windows 11 or an older version of Windows?

Hi Sage

You deserve to take a break!

Dell Inspiron 14 5410 14" Touch i7-1195G7 5.0GHz 16GB 512GB SSD 2-in-1 LAPTOP. I have a LG 32" monitor, which is vital for me, but it's nothing special. The laptop is about 3 years old and I run Windows 11 Home.

I don't have any problems designing on my laptop at all. I work with quite large (and multiple) CRZs. I run all the associated design programs - GIMP, NCH sound editor, Extender, etc on the laptop. I have a Seagate backup drive and I also save alot of files and CRZs to OneDrive. At the moment, I have quite a few courses sitting here in one state or another. Never found the need to re-configure it or play around with the settings or tamper with W11 updates in order to get APCD/Links working. Its always been quite easy and seamless (touch wood).

But APCD, Links and these related programs is basically all I run on the laptop. For my everyday needs, I have a MacAir. I don't really like the Dell - mainly because it has the shortest battery life of any laptop I have ever used. But, plugged in, it seems to get the APCD job done without breaking a sweat.

WOW......thanks guys,

I'm looking to upgrade ( or downgrade ) to a desktop. I don't need another laptop. I want dedicated graphics that APCD can use and also run some older ( 2010 or around there ) first person shooters.

A 3.0 GHz at least processor.

Something that won't lag when in APCD and take forever to save.

I can spend about $400.00, not much more. It will take me 5-6 months to save enough for it.

Something along these lines............

"Gaming PC, SSD, Intel Core i7® 4770 Processor, 8 Threads, 3.90 GHz, 16 GB, 512 GB SSD, Geforce GT 1030 GDDR5, WLAN, DVD-RW, USB 3.0, Win11 64"

Clock speed will be more related to processor generation, newer generation processors tend to be more around 2.5 GHz.

I am running Links itself with a GT1030 so I know that works well.

A Gen 4 i7 can run Windows 11 (Microsoft will not want to know about it) but it can be installed from Windows 11 install media. Such a machine would not have come with a SSD, so is likely to have an add on SATA SSD, it will not have a M.2 slot.

I could not say how well it will run the APCD, that machine would have come with Windows 8.1 (most likely). I do have a Gen 3 i3 system, it did not have a SSD but was struggling with Windows 10, I suspect the lack of a SSD was a major factor. It now runs Linux and does have a SATA SSD, I would avoid an i3 system, it was what I could get at the time. Developers will probably have to pipe in with their configs.

FWIW, While I am in Australia, a couple of years ago I picked up a run out System with an i5 Gen 13 processor and 8GB memory for the equivalent of USD $420, yes I have since added another 8GB of memory and a GT1030 to it. While it is a SFF machine because it had a M.2 SSD meant I was able to move a 2TB HDD to the machine. This system was brand new in the box.

What I am saying is do not overlook a superseded machine, or perhaps even a demo machine, you can at times get a good deal if they want to shift the stock.
