Is there a trick to installing the Pro Distance Mod to Links. I have the instruction page, but when I download and install the executable and try to run it, I get the message that critical files are missing. Thanks for any help.

Doug,

The LINKSPDMOD.EXE must be installed in the same directory that you installed Links in. The mod installs 2 files on your computer: LinksPD.exe and an updated version of LinksMMIII.exe. This new version of LinksMMIII.exe installs into its own subdirectory (LinksPD) so that it does not interfere with the normal 1.07 version.

To start Links with the Pro Distance Mod, use the LinksPD.exe in your main Links directory. If I attempt to start Links with the Pro Distance Mod by using the LinksMMIII.exe in the LinksPD subdirectory on my Win11 laptop, I receive the same critical files are missing message you are receiving.

You should still be able to start unaltered Links by using LinksLauncher.exe and/or LinksMMIII.exe in your main Links director/folder.

You will have to create a new player to use the Pro Distance Mod and only Classic Swing and/or Easy players can use it. Also, you may not be able to play online using the Pro Distance Mod.

Thanks much Leo,

I finally figured out where to put the files (I wasn't properly changing the destination folder) and it installed and worked. However, the sky disappeared and the ball flight tracking in the top cam did not work. Could the voodoo wrapper be interfering?

My regular Links still works fine, with the added benefit that it now loads much more quickly.

Glad you got it to load. I don't use the wrapper you are using nor do I have the issues you are experiencing running the Mod, but you might consider placing a copy of your wrapper files into the LinksPD folder where the new version of LinksMMIII.exe resides. Don't remove them from your main Links folder, just add a copy to the LinksPD folder.

Great suggestion Leo. What I remembered from installing the wrapper I referenced, without which I could not get Links to work in Windows 11, was that it was necessary to install a set of .dll files into the Links directory. I installed these files into the Links PD folder and voila! Sky and shot-tracking are available and the new distances functional.

Thanks much for heading me in the right direction!

With any of the wrappers it is necessary for the Wrapper's DLL files to be in the same directory as the program you want to use them with.

As the pro distance mod has a modified copy of the Links program executable in a separate directory then there needs to be a copy of the wrapper's DLLs in that folder along with a copy of the configuration file.

I would suggest you look at using the new DDrawCompat wrapper in place of the dgVoodoo wrapper, from my own experiences it works better.
