It is issue why Turnberry did not host 2020 Open that was on tentative schedule back then, but removed in 2015 by Royal and Ancient, plus they placed Turnberry out of rota consideration for sure back in 2021. Interesting to see Turnberry did not host first Open until 1977 when Watson beat Nicklaus and Watson seeking his sixth championship lost out to Cink in 2009 when Open was last played at Turnberry. I see Stewart Parker did Turnberry, Troon and St. Andrews that have hosted Open with those courses updated to be HD versions around 2011 as his last work done here in Links.

Current Open Rota venues:
Royal Portrush Golf Club, Northern Ireland First 1951, Last 2019, Next 2025
Old Course at St Andrews, St Andrews, Scotland First 1873, Last 2022
Royal Birkdale Golf Club, Southport, England First 1954, Last 2017, Next 2026
Muirfield Gullane, Scotland First 1892, Last 2013
Royal St George's Golf Club, Sandwich, England First 1894, Last 2021
Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, England First 1897, Last 2023
Royal Troon Golf Club, Troon, Scotland First 1923, Last 2024
Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, Lytham St Annes, England First 1926, Last 2012
Carnoustie Golf Links, Carnoustie, Scotland First 1931, Last 2018

Beyond 2026 there are no confirmed Open venues that can see unlike those for US Open or PGA. Also here another factoid that stands out for Great Britain and Northern Ireland there has never been an Open Championship contested in Wales.

Of the current nine venues it would be interesting to see comments as to which ones really do not merit being on list. Something I read is that St. Andrews with its notoriety is meant to host Open every five years making it a likely choice in 2027. This brings up question of Muirfield and Lytham as it has been awhile for them hosting the Open.
