I turned off Norton and tried all three browsers - Edge, Chrome and Firefox and still got the same error message. I was running Norton security previously years ago and Links worked fine, including a slew of downloads.

What about the suggestion in this post quoted below, did you try this?
Adelade wrote: November 25th, 2022, 6:37 am Like I said, Im no expert on this type of stuff - at least not for a computer other than my own - but I would try following this guide (note that it lists 2 possible fixes, you're supposed to choose between them, not do both (unless whichever you try first doesnt work. I personally recommend the one they list first): https://thegeekpage.com/fix-file-cant-d ... s-windows/

If you're uncomfortable with lowering the computer's security, keep in mind that:
-While no one here can nor will guarantee complete safety - tons of Links users have downloaded and run these 3 downloads which I've recommended (the dgV wrapper, LSPN main, LSPN crash fix) without any reported security issues.
-After downloading the 3 files, you can retrace your steps and undo the changes to get back your original settings.

A version for the Xbox named Links 2004 was released in November 2003. It would be the final game in the series. In March 2004, Microsoft announced the cancellation of its 2004 lineup of sports games, allowing the company to focus on improving such games. The company stated, "Links is something that we're taking a hard look at what we need to do. At the end of 2004, Microsoft sold Indie Built (formerly Access Software) to Take-Two Interactive. Indie Built was later shut down in 2006.
Many members of the development team now work for TruGolf, a golf simulator company based out of Centerville, Utah. In 2021, TruGolf re-acquired the rights to the Links series, re-releasing classic editions on GOG, as well as a new title, Links E6, the first in 17 years.

Then you might as well get these two patches already, theyre quick to apply, just place in the main Links folder and then run them.

Adelade, have you tried downloading from these links that you provided?
I just tried, and got the same results as Cervantes. I use Firefox and I WON'T use Norton.

I use Firefox and they work for me yes. I tried just now on Edge too and they work there too. Have you checked if your Internet Settings are set differently than those shown in "Fix 1" from the link I provided?

You can try adding an "s" to make them https links I suppose. Like this:

https://lspn.net/server_switch/LSPN_MAIN_L2K3.exe
https://www.lspn.net/downloads/LSPN_CRASH_FIX.exe

The links to the two LSPN downloads are the official LSPN ones.
No, I've not checked. I will. I've never had issues downloading before, but there's a first time for everything.

Edit : Just checked. Set the same as "Fix 1". Downloaded a couple of courses with no issues.

I'll play with mine as time allows. I think we need to get Cervantes basic Links program working first.

I never had any luck turning off Norton. Too many people have successfully done their downloads after UNINSTALLING Norton for it to just be dumb luck. They even had to google-search for the software tool that completely uninstalls Norton to get rid of it, but they went to the trouble because they truly wanted to solve their problem. I guess you want to do it your way, though, even though it's not working. Good luck.
