Des,
For a player that is enjoying a nice round of golf it is not nice that when they arrive at hole 9 they may, or may not crash?
Do you think, like I do, that the course should be pulled?
Thanks for your time.
Ian
Designers and GPU support for LS2003
Re: Designers and GPU support for LS2003
I hosted a 4 round event in my league in January. I received no comments concerning crashing, and experienced no crashing while I was doing the setup. There are no re-qualifies allowed in my league so crashes result in a disqualification. There were none. There were only the normal three players that participated, which is not unusual for my events, but no crashes. During my setup, I play 4 complete rounds under different conditions with different pins. I won't present a course for league play if I find a problem that may cause a dis-qualification.
I like the course. It's about 40 miles east of my hometown of Columbus, Ohio and I think it is on par with everything you've done, and I would hate to see you pull it. But you have to do what you think is best,

Re: Designers and GPU support for LS2003
Ian, I had no problems with either version, reflective or non reflective lake.
Re: Designers and GPU support for LS2003
Ian,
I am not seeing any problem with the non-reflective water version of the course.
My testing of late has been with the reflective water beta version to see if the new wrapper provided a solution. So I see no need to pull the version that is available to all.

GoBucks, 5wood and Des,
Thanks for your comments.
The course will stay in the database.
Thank you.

Re: Designers and GPU support for LS2003
Ian,
Hopefully, to put your mind at rest, I loaded up the release version of the course. Went out to the 9th green and played 40 odd shots from around and on the green, the Beta would have crashed, the released version had no problem.

Re: Designers and GPU support for LS2003
Loving it! Definitely an enhancement of the graphics across the board, but particularly mids and long distance views. Where the texture detail would previously just fade out to the horizon, textures now seem to really pop around that mid-range.
The textures on hills and mounds now look extra good and give very natural grass variations as ground elevations vary. My cart paths (in concrete slab format) now look incredible! The rocky areas now seem to have come to life. Am I just imagining this?
Not convinced about the sharpening of the trees tho. At times it looks like the effect you get when you oversharpen 2D objects in GIMP. Maybe because I am already working with high-quality trees that might not need any extra work (?)
Maybe textures could be now be too "grainy" for some, because it can appear that way at times.
Changes in design? Not really sure. Good mid textures have always been super-important in my opinion, but you'll certainly see the benefits of those now. I always try to use quality textures and then add as much detail as possible to the courses I make, so they have some scenic quality. Anything that improves the appearance of my design in Links just serves as extra incentive to keep doing this, and then just to keep adding quality and detail in my efforts to make these courses look as wonderful as most of them actually are.
Great work and thank you to all you techheads and boffins out there, who are such an important part of keeping this game going.
