Awesome round Des!! I've shot 56 or 57 back on the Original Links 386 (I think that's what it was called) on Barton Creek and Dorado Beach or something like that way back in the 90's! With RTS even more inpressive to me as I've not fully tried RTS and don't think I have enough desk space to be able to do it properly.

Re: Links PGA Tour 2026 - Travelers Championship
Was hoping for a good moving day round today, but as Jim Schwartz told us Lions fans many years ago, "Hope is not a strategy." Probably lost a few shots to the field with my round today, Missed the first three greens but chipped in at #3 for my first birdie, made birdie at #6 around a bogey from the sand at #5 to go out in 34, made birdie at #12 hoping to get momentum going but followed that with a 3 putt bogie at #13 and drove into the water getting greedy trying to hit it further for a better shot at the green on the par five, made bogey at #14, missed 2 makeable birdie putts on #14 and #16, made pars at #17 & #18 after missing both greens to come back in in 36 shots for a 34-36=70 even par round and minus six for the tourney.

7 under for round 3 which I should be happy with, but considering I started 4 under on the first 4 holes it's kind of disappointing to only shoot 3 under for 14 holes on a course that is scoring well. https://youtu.be/p37T093B3Bc

A 57?? Wowdwg wrote: ↑June 27th, 2026, 7:55 am Well I went out for a half hour of practice before my round, need to stop the increasing score trend, otherwise known as the rot setting in.
It looked ominous, A lack of mouse control (RTS) poor swing length judgement etc etc, did not bode well for my round. I managed to even do this nasty hook.
Towards the end, my mouse control clicked into place and my judgement of swing length and club to use improved, while I use the caddy, that I take as just a starting point and I adjust the club from there, my caddy does not allow for any breeze well, nor ground level changes, but he is cheap.
I started birdie, birdie, courtesy of an 8 metre putt then a 6 metre putt. I was sinking them from everywhere, lag putts left me close enough to sink the next. A further 3 birdies and I went out in 30. Great start I thought, if I could consolidate on the back nine and pick up a couple more birdies I thought I could post a good score, much like day one, except with my run of holes on the front nine instead of the back.
Started the back 9, birdie, birdie, same as the front nine, great, then the world went mad. I birdied 13, 14 & 16, with an eagle thrown inbetween on 15, then another birdie on 18 to come home in 27. I was on a real roll and could do no wrong.
A round of 57, I was shocked. No bogies, but 11 birdies and one eagle and all on challenging settings. My other scores in the 50's have all been on classic Links settings.
100% of drives in the fairway, 83% of greens in regulation. A total of 22 putts, so they were dropping from everywhere, my break judgement and speed on the putts was good. Even had one chip in. Yet I was not knocking shots to dead of the pin, it was the short game that gave the score.
-3 on the par 5's
-8 on the par 4's
-2 on the par 3's
What breeze there was turned out in my favour, either helping me get over the water or making sure I did not drift towards it.
It was one of those rounds where everything came together. I did not really leave anything out there.

Well, didn't move very far on moving day! (92% of fairways, 88% of greens AND 32 PUTTS) Left 12 lag putts inside 8" but if it doesn't drop, it doesn't matter. Still managed a 65, but nowhere near what you guys are shootin'! And CONGRATS ON THAT 57
May be a better day tomorrow ....

Re: Links PGA Tour 2026 - Travelers Championship
Not so much desk space required now.
With RTS on older systems like Windows XP and with older mice, there was a lot of arm movement required. That is still the case with Linux.
However with Windows 11 and more recent mice I am finding it is mostly just wrist movement that is required.

True to form, I'm first to the finish (unless Des pops in while I'm writing this.)
Birdied the first two.
Bogeyed the next two.
Turned a 3-foot birdie into an 8-foot par on the 8th but did manage to birdie 6,7 and 9 for an outgoing 32. Not feeling particularly confident though. Missed a couple of curvy short ones on the back, but was pretty dialed in with my approaches to shoot 30 coming back in. So, in the clubhouse at -31.

Well played Doug.
That sets the clubhouse challenge, and a very difficult one it is.
8 pars and 1 birdie on front nine, and 4 pars, 3 birdies, one bogey and one quintuple bogey (if there is such a thing) on the home nine.
Therefore my score was 34/38 72.
With the previous three rounds I had makeable chances for birdies on most holes, today I was struggling to make par on most holes. The 8 on the par 3 16th, should have been a 5, but I reacted like a spoilt child and deservedly carded an 8. Whether it is real life golf or Links golf, it is so frustrating.
Good luck to all who are yet to play.

Well I am certainly moving today. Unfortunately, backwards. A really terrible round:by Ian Wells » Sat Jun 27, 2026 8:18 am
....... it means I won't be moving up the board - at least not today.
