What is the yellow putter break indicator and how can I turn it off?

The colour indicates terrain height relative to the ball when on the green.

To disable, navigate to the title screen > Options > Players > Settings: uncheck ' Use Break Line Indicator '.

This is from the manual:

"When the Aiming Marker is on the green, an indicator line shows the direction in which the terrain slopes from the Aiming Marker’s current position. The Aiming Marker also functions as a gauge; its base turns yellow and rises like a thermometer to indicate increased steepness. Off the green, the Breakline Indicator disappears, but can be displayed by pressing and holding SHIFT while aiming."
