Iron Horse

Post by Ian Wells »

Gentlemen,
I have asked Andy to add Iron horse GC to the course database. Andy, thank you.

Iron Horse was designed by Tom Fazio and built in 2000 it is located in Whitefish, Motana, United States of America. The course is a private course with a par of 71 with the black tees stretching 7028 yards.

I hope you enjoy playing this APCD rendition of the course.

Please add any corrections/comments to the post on Links Corner. “Iron Horse Beta”

Hi Ian. This is quite a surprise for me. I live about 3 miles from the course in Whitefish. I have not played the course as it is private. If you know a member there is a $170.00 guest fee to play with them. I have hiked a trail past it. It is basically on the side of "Big Mountain" which has a ski resort. I have skied it many times. You have captured it nicely with the background showing the valley and lake. Many thanks for making it. You have renered it wonderfully with trees and textures. Even a club hourse. Plays great. Thanks again.

Ian,

Fine Rendition, looks good.

Have played one round on Windows and one on Linux, it played well. I have seen no problems to date.

I found the course was sensitive to the ball position on the tee I moved it a couple of times, there was scope for me, as a left hander to play a couple of draw shots if I wanted too, so there were options.

Wind is something to definitely allow for when playing this course and club selection can be tricky, I take the caddy suggestions as just that, suggestions.

So it is a course you have to think about when you are playing, not just rip it. Some good chips and/or putts saved me on some holes.

A fine addition to the Links course library.

Pete,
Thank you.

I created the panorama using Google Earth and GIMP. It was fiddly work trying to get the views from the 16 and 17 tees just right. Fortunately a panorama was only needed for this area around the lake, which made it a lot easier.
Thanks for the comments.

I kept the wind speed maximum of 10 mph which, according to some historical weather was the normal during May to September. I felt putting the maximum at the maximum gust speed of 30 mph would not be appreciated.
Thanks for the comments.

Ian,
I really enjoy this course. I've played a couple of rounds now, to get a better look and feel for the layout. The planting is beautifully done, and your new collection of trees is outstanding. They are very detailed and realistic, right down to the bark textures ! It never hurts to have another heavily forested, "mountain" type course to the LINKS library ( and my own collection, too.)

Another great job !!

Great job Ian  Entertaining round. Just enough elevation changes to knock you off your spot. No sleep walking this course.
Here's a link to my round. Cheers :cheers1:

Hi Ian,

I did play a couple of rounds in practice mode. The course is really beautiful, and you did a fantastic job. I couldn't find any issues or anything I would change. It is certainly a test, as it can be quite challenging if the golfer isn't accurate. Thank you for all of your hard work on creating these courses. I think we all appreciate it.

-Andy
