As for the batters in Perth the Australian ones should be marked "Fragile, handle with care, easily broken".

I played a round and had no problems myself (as yet).

8 and 9 both head toward the lake which makes us all think that's the problem. But the APCD is a bitch, so it's just as likely to be something else completely. Maybe the greens?

I have a theory (poo-pooed around these parts by some, admittedly) that failure to completely close in a green with a single texture fringe can create problems on some machines - just like the crash message here. In these cases, the Green Analyzer will not display as it should and using it may also cause a crash. But I spent some time playing around with the GA on Virtues and it seems Ok to me - couldn't get it to crash.

These are the days when we miss all our designer friends in the Designers Forum all sharing their ideas to fix a problem........

OK Ian, so its not 7 but only 5 courses this year. I stand corrected. You are NOT a machine, just a freak!
Completed: Golf Club of Houston (Redstone); Banff Springs 2025 (Thompson 18 and Tunnel Mountain); Mauna Kea 2024; Royal Sydney Golf Club.
Working on another Sydney course with an eye across the ditch too.

I've gone around holes 7 - 9 on my 2 Windows machines playing them a few different ways and it is not faulting at all. I did the same on Linux but was not really expecting any problem there.

I wonder if it is tied in somehow with the phantom trees.

Colin,
You are NOT a machine, just a freak!
Flatterer.

During my earlier testing I discovered that putting from somewhere in the area indicated below to pin0, crashed the game, but it took some time to locate the exact place.

I have now changed the setting for water to non-reflective, (and changed the texture from the APCD standard), and after a lot of test putts from the above referenced location the game did not crash. :fcrossed:

Des,
I wonder if it is tied in somehow with the phantom trees.
With APCD idiosyncrasies it may well be. Whereas the trees appearing on the 14th tee do not affect the playing, the loss of the reflective water does, in my opinion.

It is not the solution I wanted but it does allow the course to be played.

Guys, thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated.

The reflective water does add something, still that is better than what later versions of the wrapper do with reflective water - bright light blue .... erk.

Well, Ian, I finally had a chance to play a round on "The Virtues". I really like the Arthur Hills layout. The the surface textures / colors look really natural and well matched. Great look ! Like everyone else, I imagine, when I got to the 12th and 13th holes, I was pretty surprised by the open
"treeless" meadows. At first it didn't look quite right to me, but I think Mr. Hills made a nice "beak up" of the terrain from the woodlands look for those couple of holes, which is kinda cool. It looks like you did another outstanding job on the 3D clubhouse, however, it's really too bad that it's not
located down and closer the the 18th green to get a better look. It is what it is, though.

I think this a VERY nicely done course, and I'll play it often. I mentioned earlier that it reminded me a bit of Victoria National. Perhaps not the course design, but in the overall look and feel it does to me. Great work !! :tiphat:

BTW: Since you fixed a problem by changing the ponds to "no reflect", does that mean you'll be leaving them ALL that way ?? ( personally, I think the look of a reflecting surface is much nicer. Just my thought )

I think Ron has picked up what I felt. Out of curiosity, I had a look using Google Earth, and can clearly see the difference there.

Ron,
I am pleased you like the course. I have only changed the texture to non-reflective on the 8/9 hole water. The water on the 4th and the 16th is still reflective, although when I played those three holes it looked strange.

Des,
I'm sorry that I didn't reply to your earlier comments regarding the openness of some holes on the back 9.
I try to build the course as it is, with reference from what is available, Google Earth, course website and photos. Sometimes it's frustrating if I can't get anything to give me reference, then I make it up. It is clear from GE that those holes are in an open area.
As I played the holes 8 and 9 to find what causes the crash, I became more dissatisfied with the tee markers. I will try to adjust them.

Thank you,
Ian

No problem Ian.

From looking at Google Earth I can see that is the way it is. I appreciate a course that follows what a course is really like.

Ian,

I have been testing Anis so have been playing the course more. This is on my most problematic machine from a Links perspective (Intel GPU/dgVoodoo) but I have not had the slightest of problem, if a course is going to crash this is usually the machine it crashes on for me.

I have had to play from in the water in front of the 9th green a few times.

I'm enjoying playing the course, there is a nice variety of holes, and am not seeing any issues.

I think I may still have given Mr Hills a shovel and some trees to plant :)
