Me and windows 11

Post by sagevanni »

Hi everyone,
I'm finding having windows 11 and APCD running at the same time for me is VERY frustrating...... :fear:
It's super slow and planting is a nightmare for me. I love making courses for Links 2003 but my frustration is winning at the present time.
I will slog on as best I can but my production will be limited.
I'm working on 2 Mike Strantz courses off and on.

I have my old computer with windows 10 but it is WAY to much hassle for me to set up and switch between them.

So here I am................ :wallbash:

Hey, Sage:

I thought you planned to stop using Win 11, and switch ALL your APCD stuff back to Win 10, which seemed to work much better for you overall. I guess I was mistaken about that. But, really, why are you still trying to use Win 11, when it gives you nothing but headaches ? Win 10 is still fully supported, is there a reason you NEED to change to Win 11 for APCD work ? Just curious. I'd sure hate to see you stop designing altogether because of this OS debacle. I enjoy working on your course planting projects, and hope it can continue.

My win 10 5 year old laptop crapped out. I had to buy a new laptop. New laptops come with win 11. I don't have the luxury of buying computer willy nilly to get what MIGHT work from ebay or whatever. MY finances are very tight. I have what I have. I replaced the hard drive with a CHEAP SSD drive in my crapped out win 10 laptop. It works but I said I am not going to switch back and forth between comps. I don't have the space or equipment to do it right now. maybe at some point I will. I'm tired of all the hassle to get a program running.
I will do the best I can with what I have.

Very frustrated also. My computer updated about week ago and now I can't do anything with my courses. Every time I try to open a course, the APCD freezes then crashes to the desktop. I have been trying to figure out what to do to get it to stay running but so far nothing has worked. I didn't even know t had updated until I logged on and the "lets finish setting up your computer" screen was up.

My older Win 10 laptop takes too long with the newer lidar mappings, I can only work for about 10 minutes and then hope it doesn't crash while saving.

Our friends at Windows have just announced that Win 10 support will cease to exist next October.

Hi Daniel,
It's the same no matter what I do. I've even tried dgVoodoo. Nothing makes a diff on my new machine.
Planted and nothing shows up................

Sage,
Just before I released the final of TPC sugarloaf I thought that I had the same problem. I tried four or five times to plant forest and after not seeing anything I undid the plant forest. In one of my saner times I realised I had turned off display 2D objects. How stupid can I be   :wallbash: ?

Unfortunately your and Glenn's problems are much more serious.

It is a crazy situation when we have different people using the "same'"(?) operating system getting different results, while using APCD and Links.

Luckily I have never had any problems with Windows 11, except for yesterday. I agreed to allow my laptop to update a download from Windows, not the main update to 24H2, and after that my laptop would not open after the login screen. Fortunately after a number of restarts an app seems to allow me to enter the computer and work normally. This morning it again took a number of restarts to get the laptop running. I have managed to save all my files to a new external SSD. I am now thinking about doing a new windows update. Anybody have any advice?

Sage and Glenn, I sincerely hope that you can correct your problem and return to producing all those stunning courses.

Good luck, :cheers1: :cheers1:

Desperate times call for desperate measures! EBAY.com, "Windows 7 refurbished pc". I specified "desktop" and found several. You can communicate with the seller first, and prices were around $100.
