Next project

Post by Ian Wells »

I have not heard from Mr. Brandywine, so for now I am looking for my next project.

Each new project I find it extremely difficult to choose the course to build. Over the last couple of days I have made the following shortlist - in no particular order:

Gozzer Ranch, Idaho, 7317 yards Par 72
Spring Hill Golf Club, Minnesota, 7055 yards Par72
TPC Sugarloaf, Georgia, (Stables/Meadows), 7322 yards Par 72
Pelican Hill (North), California, 6945 yards Par71
Kirtland Country Club, Ohio, 6967 yards, Par 72

(The final choice will be dependent on the course being available on DEM, and that Linkster is willing to provide the download.)

I would appreciate any comments that will help me to make my choice.

Thank you.

My vote will always lean towards the PGA Tour courses, although I do greatly appreciate any real course over a fictional one, so count 1 vote for TPC Sugarloaf.

A beautifully updated HD version of Pelican Hill would be my first choice. It's somewhat shorter than the others, but has stunning scenery, and can be a challenge. The current MS version is SO archaic looking.

Good news, I can get the files to do a DEM of all 5 courses. Some are more recent than others.

Gozzer Ranch - 2019
Spring Hill Golf Club - 2012 from old USGS FTP site
TPC Sugarloaf - 2019
Pelican Hill Ocean North - 2012 from old USGS FTP site
Kirtland Country Club - 2019

My vote is Gozzer Ranch. I like the look of the chewed edge bunkering and rocky outcrops amongst the pines.

Being originally from Ohio, I feel obligated to vote for Kirtland CC. And we don't have many Ohio courses to choose from.

But any of them would be a welcome addition.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I've wanted to see Gozzer Ranch done for some time. Elevation changes, mountain course, top 100 course, and it's across the lake from Coeur d'Alene if I'm not mistaken.

My vote would be for Gozzer Ranch too. Just watching the animation here got me more excited about this one than anything the other courses photo galleries could muster: https://gozzerranchclub.com/experiences/golf

Any of those 5 will become winners in the hands of Ian Wells, so decide for yourself which is more technically realistic (can those mountain vistas be captured in APCD?)

It wouldn't be objectionable to see Nicklaus' American Dunes in the APCD. Just sayin'. :)
