FRESH INSTALL

Post by moonyblue2021 »

New Computer.....CPU i5 ....16 gig memory....GPU NVidea GTX 950m....1TB SSD.
I installed Links along with voodoo..it looks really good, but there is a problem, the trajectory of the ball is in slow motion, and every now and again it crashes leaving a screen I cannot move, so I have to reboot. I have seen on the forum a fix, but it looks very technical, is there anyone out there who can help me with a simple way or a step by step guide as I am a little nervous at attempting it. :helpsmilie:

This was the fix

There were some instructions regarding a possible solution to slow motion on the old forum. I found the same instructions over on the Links Country Club site - https://www.linkscountryclub.com/help/l ... low-motion.

Below are the instructions from that link (worth a try even if you aren't using an ATI graphics card). Also, you may want to make a copy of your videocard.txt file first in case you want to reset:

While playing Links 2003 some people with certain ATI graphics cards have experienced problems with the game acting as if it's in slow motion. Graphics cards known to exhibit this problem include older ATI Radeons.

The solution is to add your video card to the Links videocard.txt file. Here's how:

1. Determine the Device ID for your video adapter in the Dxdiag.txt file.

● Click on Start
● Click on Run
● Type DXDIAG.EXE and click Ok
● When DirectX Diagnosis comes up click on Save All Information. That will save a file called dxdiag.txt to your desktop
● Exit the DirectX Diagnostic Tool
● On your desktop, open the dxdiag.txt file that you just saved
● Under the 'Display Devices' section look for the Device ID value for your video card. For example, 0x5656. Write down this value.

2. Add the Device ID for your video card to the videocard.txt file.

● Open My Computer
● Browse to your Links 2003 folder
○ Probably C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Links 2003 or C:\Program Files\2k Games\Links 2003
● Open the videocard.txt file.
● Locate the following line in the videocard.txt file
○ Vendor = 0x1002 "ATI".
● Move down to the end of the ATI section. The last entry is:

0x5656 = "Mach 64"
BrokenAlphaTest
TextureOffset

● Create an entry for your video card at the end of the ATI section as follows but replace the information below with the Device ID and Name of your video card. You can find both in the dxdiag.txt file.

0x5654 = "Mach 64"
NoCopyZinVidMem

● Save the videocard.txt file
● You're done!

This is the bit I don't get

Open the videocard.txt file.
● Locate the following line in the videocard.txt file
○ Vendor = 0x1002 "ATI".
● Move down to the end of the ATI section. The last entry is:

0x5656 = "Mach 64"
BrokenAlphaTest
TextureOffset

● Create an entry for your video card at the end of the ATI section as follows but replace the information below with the Device ID and Name of your video card. You can find both in the dxdiag.txt file.

0x5654 = "Mach 64"
NoCopyZinVidMem

Did you install the Nvidia Patch?
No matter where you go, there you are.

I'd like to try and help you, but you give so little information. What is the last step that you've completed. Have you run DxDialog.exe? Here are lines from my DXdialog.txt file that appears on my desktop after running DxDialog.exe:

...many lines of text from the "Display Devices section...
Catalog Attributes: Universal:False Declarative:False
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 9/4/2019 5:00:00 PM, 961896 bytes
WHQL Logo'd: n/a
WHQL Date Stamp: n/a
Device Identifier: {D7B71E3E-5FC2-11CF-DD7D-1DA61BC2D735}
Vendor ID: 0x10DE
Device ID: 0x1C82
etc.

Can you find that "Device ID:" line? Put that line into your next post!

Can you find the folder "/Links 2003/ on your "C" drive? If yes, double-click on it to open it. Inside it is your VideoCard.txt file. Open it.

Do a search: click [Edit}, click [Find], enter "nVidia" and include the quotes. Find it.

More coming... By the way, saying you "don't get" something doesn't explain squat. Next time tell your audience what problem you're having - "don't get" doesn't do it! :smile:

Now. look down the videocard.txt data until you get to the next videocard manufacturer -
probably Vendor = 0x8086 "Intel". The end of the "nVidia" section is the line of data preceding it.

I have a nVidia GeForce GTX1050Ti video card. I placed this line at the end of the nVidia section:
0x1C82 = "GeForce 1050 Ti" - yours will be something like: ?x???? = "GeForce GTX 950m" (a google search of your video card name gave me the "GeForce" part.) Fill in the question marks with your DxDialog.txt data.

Do you have a Laptop PC? If so, it would be helpful to mention it.

Reply when completed, please.
