Links 2003 with AMD Ryzen

Post by ceejay »

Hi, Hadn't played links for years, really enjoyed it to pass away a few hours. Anyway with the lockdown,I still had the discs upstairs, so loaded it,ok didn't work till i added v1.07 patch, and it works, happy days.
As I had been on Linkscorner reading up to see if game would still work nowadays on modern PCs,the first thread i read on here was about dgVoodoo2 ,ok it was more about intel, but did mention AMD,would dgVoodoo2 be of any benifit to me now..better graphics etc? or as Links is running fine for me ..just leave alone.
I am running game with AMD ryzen 3 3200g with radeon vega graphics, 8gb ram , AMD 15D8:C9
Thanks

I dont think there is any point running dgvoodoo unless having noticeable graphical issues beforehand. If you are running the game on lower resolution than your native monitor resolution there are other methods of increasing it and making the game look better in that sense. Welcome back :cheers1:

I dont think Im the best person for giving advice on this regedit thing as I have never done it myself, but you could check out this thread (not just the first post) for more info: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=330

Im not sure if increasing it beyond 1280x1024 would make things better in your case, I feel like I've seen some people say the highest settings on the list being iffy, I dont remember too clearly. And with widescreen resolutions there are the slight (but to some, fully tolerable) side effects of stretched-looking game menus and not all shot replay angles showing properly. Someone else may be able to give better info about it.

You're good with AMD. I built my pc and used AMD because they don't use the "On-board Graphics" like Intel does (even with desktops). I have a nVidia GTX 1050 Ti video card but that doesn't matter. Voodoo not needed, either.

Ceejay - run the nVidia patch, please.

Here are the Regedit settings - if and only if you are familiar with Regedit, please.

Registry settings for specific resolutions:

15 - 1920 x 1200 (thanks, langle!)
14 - 1920 x 1080 (thank, Mick!)
13 - 1808 x 1008
12 - 1680 x 1050 *
11 - 1440 x 900
10 - 1366 x 768 **
9 - 1360 x 768 **
8 - 1280 x 960 **
7 - 1280 x 800
6 - 1280 x 768 **
5 - 1280 x 720
4 - 1600 x 1200 ***
3 - 1280 x 1024 ****
2 - 1024 x 768 ****
1 - 800 x 600 ****

* This only works on my computer in Full Screen Mode
** This only works in Windowed Mode on my computer
*** I know this value from my desktop computer
**** These are the original values from 1.05

The registry change won't stay unless you run REGEDIT with elevated administrative privileges (in Vista or Win7 or Win10). Find the REGEDIT.EXE and right click on it and select Properties. Choose the compatibility tab and ensure there is a check next to "Run as Administrator". Close the properties window and double-click on REGEDIT and make the change again. Your Links should then be set to 1440x900 (or whatever resolution your display mode is set to).

go to start, run, regedit.

Hi,

save a picture of Links2003 with Ctrl + F10,
then look at the properties of this picture, then you will see the resolution, probably 1920x1200.
What Links2003 shows in options is not correct.

Do not change anything after regedit!
