HD resolutions

Post by scottylewin »

Hello All,
Well I'm back after almost 9 years to take a look around.
I have installed Links 2003 on my I5 9600K GTX 1080 16gb ram windows 10 and cant get the resolution changed to 1920x1080.
I have installed 1.07 but changing the regedit to my desired resolution cause the game not to load.

Can anybody assist.

Thanks
Scott

Can anyone confirm for Scott if Windows 10 users should install the NVIDIA patch? Sorry Scott, I don't know, but that may fix it. Perhaps someone can confirm. :dunno:

I find if it does not load is to do it again. In my windows 10 Links crashed when I altered the resolution so I just loaded it again and it crashed again so on the third attempt it loaded ok.Try loading it as administrator and see if that helps.

These are the steps that I've followed When I've had to install or re-install. I'm running win10, and have been for a few years now.

Having to re install Links
Simple, follow these steps in order.

1 install Links
2 install v1.02
3 install v1.05
4 install v 1.07
5 install links NVIDIA patch
6 install lspn crash fix
7 install LSPN_MAIN_L2K3
Procedure,
Place all the files in the links main folder (including RuKsHuk.exe).
To install the patches, just double click on them, it will be done automatically.
Good luck, see you on the tees.
Robert (aka Obelix)

NB: LSPN_MAIN will set the proper IP within Links to play ON-LINE

Hi Jim...

That "power of 2" error message that you get is generally related to the textures that the course designers used in creating the course. The designers get that type of message when they use the wrong sized textures. That leads me to some questions...

1: Is that happening on a course that you are designing?

2: Are you trying to play a course that has already been created?

3: What is the name of the course that you get that message with?

4: Is it only the one course that gives you that error, or is it happening on more than one course?

1. I am not designing any courses.

2. I am playing courses that are already created.

3. Augusta National 2009 and Dunhill Links Course.

4. Both courses are giving me the error message.

I don't think I can help you with this. Sounds like it might possibly be a video driver, or setup issue, but all I'm doing is guessing.

Just for your own information, when courses are created, the designers have follow very specific rules in relation to the sizes of the textures used. The one main rule is the "power of 2" sizing. A texture can't be odd sized. It must be a maximum size of 1024x1024, and go down in size from there, only in half sizes. Some examples would be 1024x512, or 1024x256, or 512x256. In short, you can divide or multiple either the width or the height by 2, up to a maximum of 1024.

With that said, when we import textures into a course, they MUST follow that sizing rule, or the APCD will not accept them. So there's no way that a course can be created with improperly sized textures.

If you are receiving that message when you try to play a course, then for some reason there is some mis-communication going on between Links and your software. Once again, it might be driver or setup related, but then, I'm guessing. Perhaps someone can offer you better suggestion on where to look. We all play both of those courses without any issues, so we can be assured the problem is not with the courses, unless they have become corrupted. I suppose you could re-download them and replace them, but I doubt that will fix it.

Sorry I can't be of more help, :dunno: good luck,

Dan
