Graphic concerns

Post by Ian Wells »

I recently changed my laptop and downloaded Links and APCD without a problem.

I created a practice hole so that I could check the putting strengths per each condition. I must have made a fault as Links froze. I uninstalled an downloaded Links again.

Now I have a problem with parts of the screen missing, such as:
Fault1.jpg
Fault1.jpg (235.82 KiB) Viewed 3942 times
Fault2.jpg
Fault2.jpg (40.55 KiB) Viewed 3942 times
Fault3.jpg
Fault3.jpg (238.73 KiB) Viewed 3942 times
This isn't so bad, irritating but livable.

My main problem is when I play golf using the Dynamic settings. When I tee of on the first tee the screen changes to the golfer on the tee with a mix of the Splash screen. It continues with each stroke, the dynamic window returns to the previous screen mixed with the direct view. This is an example:

This is my first laptop with Nvidia and I am hoping that this glitch is related to the video card and can be easily fixed.

My computer spec is:

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i7 @ 2.60GHz 39 °C
Comet Lake 14nm Technology
RAM
16.0GB
Motherboard
LENOVO LNVNB161216 (U3E1)
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@60Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (Lenovo) 41 °C
Storage
476GB KBG40ZNT512G TOSHIBA MEMORY (Unknown (SSD))
931GB Samsung Portable SSD T5 SCSI Disk Device (USB (SATA) (SSD)) 28 °C
Optical Drives
No optical disk drives detected
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio(SST)

I am grateful for any help.

Did you redo 1.07 and Nvidia patches after your reinstall? And did the graphics ever display correctly on that same laptop before the reinstall?

If yes to the first question and no to the second question, you might need the Direct X Wrapper solution at viewtopic.php?f=9&t=788 .

I think I may have a solution to your problem put the game on and go to options then at the bottom of the screen click the system button just check if you are playing in 16bit mode or 32bit if it is 16bit then that is your problem, it needs to be 32bit. You can change it in the registry to 32bit if it shows 16bit. Here are a few pics to help you. In picture five I forgot to tell you to click on the Display tab.I hope this helps you sort out your problem.

Adelade,

I used the download from Country Club and that includes 1.07, and I did download the Nvidia patch. I can't remember if I used the dynamic view with the original download.
Thank you.

Daniel,
I changed the reference to 1 and all works well. (I certainly didn't alter that in the first installation, I only changed the Mode, unless I did it by accident?)

Thank you for your help.

I downloaded links 2003 onto a laptop running windows 10 microsoft edge. I followed all the advise, downloaded the the 1.07 patch, the nvidia patch. I also just changed the video to 64 bit. The program ran fine for about 4 holes then crashed and gives this message:

ERROR : Only power of 2 textures up to 1024*1024 supported (8,8) '>277903872.TGA'

I close out as it suggests and reopen, it runs again but each time it happens faster.

Any thoughts

If it only happens on one specific course, then the course may be corrupt. Try downloading another copy and re-installing it. If it happens on multiple courses, I would guess your computer is having troubles reading the graphics files.

The course designers are restricted to graphics files of specific sizes and only files of certain dimensions are allowed. That's what is meant by "the power of 2". If they are not the right dimensions usually the course designer software (the APCD) will reject the file when they try to add it to the course. Sometimes Links 2003 is extremely picky about the file dimensions and will crash if it detects one that it thinks is outside of the required parameters.

Let us know how many different courses this happens with.

Best wishes,

Dan

Someone with the same issue as yours tried this solution posted by Andy and they said it worked:
Andy wrote: April 11th, 2020, 4:51 pm I think you will find it's something to do with a corrupt .sky file.

Try moving blocks of them out of the C:\Program Files (x86)\Links 2003\skies folder until the problem goes.
