Video Problems

Post by Captain Nemo »

Thanks to pmgolf for the info on resolving my "Links Won't Launch problem.
New issue is video related,

Game Launches OK, but graphics are low res with chubby golfer and parts of various items (menu bar, swing meter and other buttons) are missing.
In Game Graphic setting says my GTX1050 Ti video card is not powerful enough and game defaults to the aforementioned low res rendering. Pre PC repair, the Game accepted this card and I was able choose an acceptable widescreen resolution, although I never bothered to introduce the specific resolution for my monitor (1920 x 1080).
Checked this Forum, but didn't find anything specific.
Cheers C.N.

I've got the same video card, Capt, so I know we can resolve this.

First of all, did you apply the nvidia patch? You need to do it.

Second, are you familiar with "regedit". The following applies to that:

Registry settings for specific resolutions:

15 - 1920 x 1200 (thanks, langle!)
14 - 1920 x 1080 (thank, Mick!)
13 - 1808 x 1008
12 - 1680 x 1050 *
11 - 1440 x 900
10 - 1366 x 768 **
9 - 1360 x 768 **
8 - 1280 x 960 **
7 - 1280 x 800
6 - 1280 x 768 **
5 - 1280 x 720
4 - 1600 x 1200 ***
3 - 1280 x 1024 ****
2 - 1024 x 768 ****
1 - 800 x 600 ****

* This only works on my computer in Full Screen Mode
** This only works in Windowed Mode on my computer
*** I know this value from my desktop computer
**** These are the original values from 1.05

The registry change won't stay unless you run REGEDIT with elevated administrative privileges (in Vista or Win7). Find the REGEDIT.EXE and right click on it and select Properties. Choose the compatibility tab and ensure there is a check next to "Run as Administrator". Close the properties window and double-click on REGEDIT and make the change again. Your Links should then be set to 1440x900 (or whatever resolution your display mode is set to).

go to start, run, regedit.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Microsoft Games
LINKS 2003
Display Settings

And here is what you need to add to videocard.txt:

Find the section of the videocard.txt file that starts like this:

Vendor = 0x10b4 "nVidia"
Vendor = 0x12d2 "nVidia"
Vendor = 0x10de "nVidia"
Vendor = 0x1022 "nVidia"
0x1b1d = "Riva 128"
RenderEqualZ

and ends like this:

0x02a0 = "GeForce3 XBOX"
NoCopyZInVidMem
0x01F0 = "GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU"
RenderEqualZ
0x0181 = "GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU A"
RenderEqualZ
0x1C82 = "GeForce 1050 Ti" <----------- Put this text here

Vendor = 0x8086 "Intel" <----------- the next section begins
0x1132 = "815"

Now check it out and post the results here. Also, check out 1680 x 1050 32 bit. That's what I use.

Thanks again Pete. Got off lightly. You reminded me about the patches so I found that info in another forum. Andy's latest info reads 1.02 patch, 1.07 and then Nvidia Patch. It appears that patch now has additional HD resolutions and 1920 x 1080 32 bit is listed; so I installed and tested that res. I currently only have the 6 + 20 original Microsoft courses installed, but the couple I played a few holes on looked pretty good. Going to add some HD courses now.

Cheers Dave :cheers1:
