GBVC is now LVC - what features do we need/not need

Post by mwc0914 »

GBVC will be renamed Links Virtual Career (LVC). It is moving forward with development. LVC will offer different career options

1. PGA - you compete against some of the current PGA Tour players
2. Champion - You compete against some of the PGA Champion Tour players
3. Legends - You compete against some of the greatest names in golf history
4. Any combination of the 3 options.

You will be able to run multiple careers simultaneously.
I am pulling PGA/Champion Tour player stats from 2019 as much as possible (2020 I think is not a true reflection). In addition, you can opt to not use these stats, but use a random generation of stats, or have each player be equal in stats.

I am curious what features from GBVC would you like to continue to see in LVC, and which features can we do without.
Want to be sure to include things that you like, as well as no need to include things nobody uses.

Is there a feature not currently in GBVC you would like to see? I may be able to include it.

Thanks
Mike

Will you be able to make match play like GBVC?

I really like
The "detailed leaderboard" where you can see scores in real time.
Random setting of weather and conditions.
A good playoff for ties.
A course list with hole pars so I wouldn't have to look it up every time.
The stats it kept during the match and throughout the season.
You could print out lots of stuff.
If you made a mistake it was ez to fix it.
How realistic the scoring is, but you can tweak it if you want.
You can use it with any golf game. Not just links.

Things I didn't like.
Sometime the better players would sit out a week.
Sometimes I had to use an exemtion.
At first it seemed very complicated, but after using for the last 15 years it got easier.

Thanks for doing this. I hope I can get a version of Excel it will run on!

Could I have a description sort of what this is or how it broadly works, for someone who has never tried any previous version? I was interested in what I believe was an older version and was on the fence about downloading and checking it out, but I believe I instead asked this same question back then and never got an answer. Or maybe I downloaded it and didnt know what to do with it. What is the advantage compared to Career Mode other than being able to have playoffs from ties? Can you see scores in real time like between holes like in Career Mode? I imagine you have to tab out of Links to see it, to Excel or something? Do you have to fill stuff in manually during tournaments or before each tournament? How does it work?
Finished Courses - Main: Amedal (fictional), Nine Bridges (real)
Other: Austin, Sheshan, Kauri Cliffs, Le Golf Nat. Updates: Whirlpool, Royal Lytham, Royal St George's, Chicago, Chambers Bay, Munchen Nord E
Working on: 2 fictional courses + a couple things...

I have dual monitors so I run links in one and have GBVC open in the other. While you are playing you only enter your score after each hole. Download and play with it. It has instructions but is a little complicated. LVC looks like it will be a lot simpler if you want to wait for it.

I agree with everything cloeks1 wrote in the first post.

I really like the fact that I can tweak the scoring

I like the stats kept after each tournament for each player.

Looking forward to seeing your creation!

How about the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup. Can they be played on LVC?

mwc0914 ...... Do you know what version of Excel we will need or if there is something free or cheap we can use to run it? I'm really looking forward to using LVC and would like to get whatever I need so I'm ready to go.

Again, thanks for all the work you are putting into this.

There will be a Ryder/President's Cup aspect of LVC. It may come out in the first release, but there are plans for it.
I am developing LVC using Excel 2019. I do not know how much may be backwards compatible with earlier version of Excel. I do not it will not work with Excel 95 or before, because those files ended in .xls, but now files end in .xlsx.
