Muirfield

Post by MrMoggie »

I've been tinkering with APCD for some time and have been working on Muirfield, Scotland, which is my first attempt at a finished course.

I should have a beta version ready soon and would really appreciate some feedback.

Don't expect too much because, as I say, it's my first course.

I used Google Earth for the layout and a guide to the elevations, plus some helpful online youtube videos and assorted photos.

The beta will not yet have the iconic clubhouse because I'm rubbish at 3D and no pano because I'm equally rubbish at panos, but off the back tees should play to the exact yardage as the 2013 Open won by Phil Mickelson.

Few screenshots from APCD below.

I had to use poetic licence with the greens as there are no contour maps available. Believe me I tried, even contacting the UK caddies association but no luck

Steve.....I think it's shaping up quite well, especially for your first course. There are plenty of panos out there, I'm sure something might fit in
with Muirfield's landscape. As far as the 3D clubhouse is concerned, maybe one of the other designers could help you out with that. It would be nice to include it. I always hoped that someone would design Muirfield for Links. Good luck as it progresses !

Thanks for the kind words, guys

Just for comparison below are a couple of photos of the real course - 7th tee from above and 2nd green complex from roughly the same position as the APCD screenshots

Thanks, Pete

I should have given credit to Stewart Parker for the use of his links course textures which I understand he made freely available to the community in his unlocked courses

Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong

Hi, Steve.

I think it might be useful for you the images from the 2013 Open yardage book. I attach all 18 greens into a zip file. 1st green example:

Good stuff Steve, it'sd looking good. :cheers1:

Fun creating something like this, isn't it? Im in the process of also doing my first course, though it's very different style to yours. Set in Australia. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the course when you're finished.

Cheers, AJ

Alarduran - that's brilliant!

Thanks so much

You wouldn't believe the lengths I went to in order to find green maps

Beta might be delayed a bit …

AJ - yes, it's great fun. Can be frustrating at times, but rewarding
