I have just discovered these and want to say TYVM for taking the timke to make them. I am just learning 3D stuff, and have watched the YT videos by Lez on building a simple building without shadows. Which was really helpful, but doesn't discuss taking the shape further and applying textures and so on. Which is what I need to learn.

Cheers, AJ

Well done Dan for all your hard work. Found your tutorial fascinating - and your method of shadow removal works!!!!!

However, I still have a problem. I'm working on Ballybunion, and there are three caravan parks, a graveyard full of stones, and numerous houses - about 4-500 3D objects in all. If I go through that lot doing shadow removal for each one, I'll still be doing it this time next year! And there's also the shadows on the terrain as well. I've tried playing the course with things as they stand, but the 3d objects above are just an eyesore.

There surely must be a quicker way to remove shadows en masse. Anyway, I'll go on wrestling with the problem!

Cheers and thanks again for the tutorial.

Hi John. Thanks for the good words. Very much appreciated. Unfortunately when you are hand-creating 3D structures, shadows will always be a problem. I know of no way to remove them any faster than the method you are using. :dunno: In a situation where you have a lot of houses, I recommend that you plant 3D houses from the 2001 planting set. There are enough of them in the planting set that if you place them side-by-side, they reach far enough apart to where they don't repeat often enough that will you see a lot of obvious duplicates next to each other.

Sorry I don't have any better suggestions than that. Good luck,

Dan

Thanks Dan. Thought as much. No wonder Designers are shying away from this course! Houses from the 2001 set - yes, possibly. But that only leaves about 300 plus caravans! However, might it not be possible to create just one caravan off site (they're all pretty much the same) then add that to the planting set and re-use 300+ times?

Cheers

Yes, you can re-use the caravan, provided it's a 2D object.

There was a tool made that allowed cloning of 3D created from terrain but only a few designers were given access to it. I'm sure Dr. Rob Miller used it on one of his courses to clone multiple 3D power lines that he made from terrain. He was a member on the Perfect Golf forum when I was there a few years ago, so he may still be contactable there. The tool was probably made by Andrew Jones, the creator/co-creator of the 1.07 mod and Links Extender, and the lead programer of Perfect Golf, so he may also be able to make the tool available.

I do have the APCD Mod with some instructions how to use it. No way I'm contacting Andrew Jones though, after he banned me from the PG forum

Hi Lez... I recall some talk about that tool here on the forums, but from what I remember, the instructions were kind of vague, and I don't remember anyone mentioning that they actually got it to work.
