Capital Golf Course (Aussie course)

Post by AJ Allen »

Thought maybe people might be interested to see this. Been working hard on this for a few weeks, though still lots to do. But course is in a playable state for all 18 holes now.

Capital is a privately owned course in Melbourne, visited by the rich and famous, and those with enough money or connections to visit. Not particularly challenging for a good golfer, it is more for those that want a resort experience with perfectly manicured fairways, silky greens and not a blade of grass out of place. Lots of bunkers, ponds, undulations, and well screened from prying eyes on the other side of the 12' fence.

Anyway, here's a few screenshots from around the course. Be nice if I can have this ready in a month or so.

Cheers, AJ

TYVM! Haha, planting is my favourite part of doing a design. I love it, much more fun than all the elevations and seams etc. Planting is what brings a course to life, I love choosing all the trees grasses and so on.

TY Duglis. Dan put the Google Earth map into a texture for me, so have been doing it as close as I can get to everything being correct. Just using Earth for green heights and slopes at the moment, but might possibly get the strakaline book for it yet. Just have to see.

The course probably isn't a huge challenge, although a bit more than meets the eye. Plenty of contours and undulations on the fairways means you have to be able to play non level lies to score well. But fairways are wide, trees and ponds probably won't cause too much trouble so it evens out.

Looks good AJ.
For me the planting is the least enjoyable part of creating a course, but I do agree that it is what brings a course to life.
As for Strakaline or Golflogix I am undecided. I used Golflogix for Wade Hampton, (thanks again to Glenn), but it was because my green contouring was so terrible. I think that almost all the golfers playing your course will not know if the greens are based on factual data or not, but with Wade Hampton they certainly knew it wasn't good
I am working on Peachtree GC and fortunately for me Google Earth has very accurate elevation data so I have used this, but it is a long, boring process with no certainty that it will be enjoyed by the golfers. We shall see.

Look forward to playing the final release

(By the way I find Jupiler is a better beer than Stella :cheers1: :ill: )

AJ, what happened to that update you were going to do to Coomealla, where you did more planting?
