Playing a Tier System Tour with AI Players

Post by umanfly2boot »

How i play with ( AI Players ) .
If playing the same old Links Tour gets old , you might try this .
I play a Links Tour with a Tier System for AI players .
First Heres my 1st Game Example Schedule with 16 AI players:

Game Scoring - Points per Game : 20 - 10 - 5 - 3 - 1

January
1. Augusta Par 3 - Players 1-2-3-4
2.7 Lakes GC - Players 5-6-7-8
3. A Desert Oasis - Players 9-10-11-12
4. 00 Dominator - Players 13-14-15-16

NOTE: You can scrample the playing order to make it fun .....
It doesnt have to be ( 1-16 in succession ) .

Example : Heres are my 16 Players Tiered Best to worst after they all play 1 Game each .
And if i played every game ..... my points would accumulate
1.Sergio 5
2.Arnold 20
3.Annika 10
4.Mike 3
Me. 1
.........................
5.Bob 1
6.Heidi 20
7.Brad 3
8.Larry 10
Me. 5
.........................
9.Brett 3
10.Craig 20
11.Keith 5
12.Dan 10
Me. 1
.......................
13.Matt 5
14.Hammer 3
15.Chris 20
16.Reggie 10
Me. 1
............................................................................
The Totals Look like this after 4 Games :
1.Arnold 20
2.Heidi 20
3.Craig 20
4.Chris 20

5.Annika 10
6.Larry 10
7.Dan 10
8.Reggie 10

9.Me. 8
10.Sergio 5
11.Matt 5
12.Keith 5

13.Mike 3
14.Brad 3
15.Brett 3
16.Hammer 3
17.Bob 1
................................................
Then Play a full schedule ( 4 games a week )
Total all the Points : And see where you stand .
Its an idea and can be expanded to ( Majors ) after every 4 games which include former winners of games played ...or whatever you want .
But i found it a nice change from the regular routine .
................................................
Plus : The Lower Tier Players in my schedule get Skill Bumpups ( if they change Tiers ) from week to week .
Example : If Matt ...in week 2 , went from 11th to 7th .
Then i would give him a 7 skill Bumpup ( any order i choose ) But has to to be only 7 clicks.( Be Honest - Cheaters not tolerated ) ).
This way ...your game is constantly evolving and bad players get better

Aha-it would be interesting to use the female configurations to have an LPGA tour....adjusting the club lengths just a tad.
There's a young lady from Smiths Falls... :clapping:

...and there are several female anis...getting the pictures is not that hard either.

...just a thought...if any of you are married or in a relationship it might even bring you closer together.
Valentine's Day is just around the corner.

I like this idea and think I might give it a go; I've been getting a little bored with traditional play and something new would be good to reinvigorate my game. One question: When you initially create your AI players, do you allow the game to randomly create your AI players' skill levels, or do you do some of your own skill tweaking (aside from when you give them "skill bumpups?")

Hi Doug , This is Links 2001 were talking about...OK .
And i installed it on a Windows 7 system .When i did the game has only 5 players with Championship Settings that cannot be viewed or changed .

1.Arnold Palmer
2.Annika Sorenstam
3.Hiedimichi Tanaka
4.Mike Weir
5.Sergio Garcia

When i installed : Craig Stadler , Bob , and Dan .
I let the game decide their skill status , and allowed them to get bumped up later as they worked their way up the tier.

The same thing for the rest of the players that were in the game .
I did have a problem when the game initially had some of them as real players that i could use , and not AI opponent players to play against ( It was a mess ) :scared:
So i had to go back in and delete the real players and recreate each player with their names and take either the championship or pro status that the game game them when created.

To expand the field , i took each player and cloned them with different name. :naughty:

As for the skills of all the original and clones who were ( Adjustable players ) . I left it where it was created but made sure a ( 65.5 ) point skill level for the worst players was low enough to start with .But i did make sure they were balanced in a way that , their skills were centered and not on the fringes of the extreme .

So far i have been surprised by some but see losing trends in others , but the tier system mixed with a lottery pick of opponents every other week is keeping me guessing ....its been fun in any case.

What i mean by lottery system is this: Say this week is chosen by lottery ok .
Lets say i have 24 players . Who plays who ? 4 players a week , 24 games over the next 6 weeks ( let Random.org decide )
See the results here : https://www.random.org/sequences/?min=1 ... ml&rnd=new

Now , In deciding how to bump up their skills , i just reflect on how they have been playing and think of what they need to do to improve more to get above the Frey as it were .

Then there are other things you can do , throw dice before a game to set playing conditions , or pin selections , or random mulligans in a game , or
wind conditions , greenspeed , firmness ... there is so much you can do to add variety to the game .
And if your an OLD Timer , and have arthritic hands and cant do the three click without frustration anymore ...Use the easy swing .

Make a score sheet with your Yearly totals .

Put your Yearly totals on a Trophy .

Make your game Fun , just keep playing :cheers1:

Just to show an Example :
Heres How i play Links 2001 with Dice :

I use this cup : https://www.amazon.com/Tuzama-Professio ... 375&sr=8-5

I use a die tray like this : https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com ... L1407_.jpg

I use a die of three . ( D6 1 - 3 )( You can buy them online : https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com ... L._AC_.jpg

To Start :

Roll for Mulligan Factor ( Die of 3 ) ( Revised .... :scared:

3. Unlimited Mulligans / Only 4 mulligans per hole ) Always only 4 per hole !!! :( Allowed for 2 on Tee Shot - 2 On Putting ) :
..................................................................
Roll for conditions ( Die of 3 )
1. Wind :

1. No Breeze
2. Breezy
3. Windy
...........................................................
2.Green Hardness :

2. Moderate
3. Firm
...............................................................
