Can someone please explain to me what the point of increasing PGA Tour prize money is? ESPN Article: https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/32 ... ive-events
Its not like there are any golf pros who think "I think I'll go play somewhere else because the prize money on PGA Tour is too low" is there? Then again, I suppose they're trying to preemptively prevent players from joining the Greg Norman thing. That's gotta be what it is... Thats so stupid though. Its 2021. Maybe use the extra money on something useful instead - like third world vaccination efforts, saving the rain forests, or even promoting junior or amateur golf instead of pro golf if wanting to stick to the golf arena. Sorry, did I get "political" now? Im usually good at keeping these thoughts to myself, but sometimes when the extra trillions get allocated to yet more yachts and bonus mansions...

one would (might) think that some of that extra "prize money" might be better directed towards one of the PGA's many charity funds.
...just thinking...

My guess is there's a fair amount of competition to get the top pros to play any given tournament. So a venue (or sponsor) worried about a poor showing, perhaps based on the previous season, increases the purse, and then there's a chain reaction from all the others, afraid they'll be left in the dust and maybe relegated to being a dreaded "opposite" event. It must certainly ensure the PGA will continue to attract new players, who might otherwise join another sport whose salaries have also increased over the years.
