Re: Anyone Interested In Checking My Course?
I restarted rebuilding Salishan from square one... this time starting from flat terrain instead of importing a DEM. Those old USGS DEMs you can download are more of a pain than a time saver. The information in them was collected by a satellite (maybe a Martian one), and the Z accuracy is not at all ...

Lez' Fairway Grid of Vertices
When you select any of the Lez Marwick tutorial videos on YouTube, you first see a splash screen showing a perspective view of a beautifully laid out course. When you look at the fairways, you see a very regular square grid of vertices. How did he do that? Is there a command for adding vertices in a...

Editing Terrain Material Libraries
I've seen Les' tutorial for merging object libraries... I don't see a similar tool for editing terrain material libraries. Is it possible to eliminate some materials in the Terrain materials library that pops up... and add them back later on if I decide I need another one? I've pretty much chosen wh...

Re: Cropping an ASCII DEM...
OK... now I'm officially confused. I just posted a topic "DEM Point vs. DEM Gradient Images". I've learned that the old USGS DEMs might be pretty inaccurate to begin with. I'm wondering whether APCD uses the XYZ points listed in a DEM file or does it use the Greys in a gradient image. If I...

DEM Points vs. DEM Gradient Images...
I used a DEM file to create the mesh for the course I'm working on. At first I thought I didn't have my aerial photo lined up properly, because one of the fairways I traced was partially up the side of a hill in the mesh. Since then I spoke with a guy who knows a lot about DEMs and LAS files. He sai...

Offsetting Shapes For Fringes etc...
Because I planned to trace an aerial photo over my DEM file all along, I didn't see the need to draw that rough shape to trace before adding vertices for greens, traps, fairways, etc.. I simply picked and added vertices by picking along the edges I could see in the photo underlay. Now that I'm going...

Re: Tree Density... How much is too much?
Thanks, guys... I'm thinking the reality of that course would be that if you're more than about 20 feet into any of those forests, you're screwed. Has anybody ever created PDFs so you can print out elevation views of what's in the libraries? I might do screen captures of the big trees and fir trees ...

Tree Density... How much is too much?
The course I'm working on (Salishan GC at the Oregon coast) should be pretty interesting to landscape. The front nine cuts through an old growth forest of Douglas Firs, and the back nine is down the hill near the ocean, so it sort of has a little Scottish links flavor. I was lucky enough to find a g...
