Re: Using LIDAR DEM for Real Courses

I can certainly help you with the elevations. It looks like you started with a google earth image and "painted" the course textures over the image. I'll generated some contour lines for the entire course and you should be able to map the contours texture to your work. I'll also generate th...

Re: LIDAR Tutorial 1 – Creating Green Contours in QGIS

I didn't have the original .png images I used in that post but I made new ones. Going forward I will now edit my posts to re-add old attachments. Thanks for keeping me straight Andy!

Seriously!

I you can find a textured 3d model of a zamboni I can have a look at importing it. The possibilities are endless! I have browsed a few free 3d model websites and have found some nice buildings I want to use.

Re: Using LIDAR DEM for Real Courses

The answer to both questions would be yes. I can make a .dem file in QGIS that can be imported into the APCD. This provides a square grid of verts (but doesn't have to be square) usually at 2m (6.5ft) or 3m (10ft) spacing that covers the course area. I also add hi-resolution satellite imagery usuall...

Re: LIDAR Tutorial 1 – Creating Green Contours in QGIS

This should be the .pdf I posted to start this topic: LIDAR Tutorial 1 Green Contours.pdf It is a little dated as I do things a bit differently but anyone who uses GIS programs would likely have a different way of getting to the same result. It is the concepts of how to work with all the possible da...

Re: Getting custom 3D objects into the APCD

Sorry about that Adelade, I didn't notice the question. Nope, I'm not using the clone tool. I only use the APCD in the .zip file created by Danny D available here. I do have a separate APCD directory for each course I work on but that is not relevant for this conversation. Are you able to import a 3...

Re: Augusta National 2023

The course pictured in the screen shot was the 2023 beta version. I can tell the difference based on the lighter textures and the shadow artifacts at the base of the 3d bridge. I separated the 3d bridges from the reflective water and reduced the number of verts in the water for the 2024 version. I h...

Re: Arcadia Bluffs

Amazing work Sage! Your full time job must be the APCD! Incredible how fast you brought this course to life.

If you or anyone out there can find a free 3d model on the internet ( Wavefront .obj and UV textured) that would work for a club house I will look into converting it for the APCD. :naughty:

Re: Augusta National 2023

Hi Luenz! Yes the 2024 version is the update of the 2023 beta. There are new textures, new tee markers, I added some more vert details to the greens, added a visual fringe to the greens, and the biggest change is the new texture properties for the fringe. I think I will do one more update next year ...

Your issues ***might*** be a user account issue in Windows. I remember with Windows 10 the default or first user account was 'admin' level access. It was a while ago but I remember having some issues with some old programs even with the admin level. I made a new user account at the 'administrator' l...
