LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by
Joe Turner `Loner'
September 2002

The course consisted of the standard stock color tee boxes, mowed fairways, rough, and greens, there wasn't a first cut and all of the greens didn't have a fringe. The tee boxes had either, 1 set of tee markers, 3 sets or 5 sets; usually just one was the norm. There were sharp edges on many of the greens and tee boxes and the bunkers looked rather standard to me. The hole shapes lacked any imagination and his idea of a challenge was to make a short, sharp dogleg with trees in the way of a reasonable shot. He had the required bunkers, rather small in size at the landing areas of the fairways and the greens were either heavily guarded or had that old familiar 3 bunker formation that we see on courses such as this. He used a number of different trees on the course, the only problem was, when he used them they were all together soldier fashion not mixed. He had pine needles as an undergrowth and didn't have any of the other 'niceties' that you find on a good course. To top it off standing majestically in the background was, yes, Whistlers Mountain.

This is another one of those 'lets see if I can use the APCD' courses. He can use the APCD but why. He had limited elevations but his caddie and the elevations worked well, towards the end of the course he started to load up the holes with more bunkers than grass, again his idea of a challenge. The greens had slight slopes to them and were done rather well. Don't the people who foist these courses upon us ever play a top rated course and see what they have to do to compete. What can I say; it's playable but even though it's tempting to download such a small course. Don't do it. I've seen worse, much worse but these aren't what it's all about. My take, forget it.
