I have to remember that this is a fantasy course and not judge it as I would a fictional course even though visually it looks fiction but plays fantasy. The blending of the tee boxes, mowed fairways, fringe, light rough, greens and their fringe looked normal, the deep grass was a very deep color, the kind you would find on a typical fantasy course. He used a nice mountain pano that complimented the course, a very nice selection of trees with the exception of the two flanking the tee box on the first hole, and some enjoyable bird sounds. His fairways were adequate in size and on occasion wide, they made for nice driving even though they had well placed bunkers, at least at the correct landing distance but they seemed to stay out your way. The greens were another story, they were medium in size and a few large and small were thrown in to keep you honest and most of all they were very well guarded by very nicely made bunkers, if anything he improves his work as he builds more courses. With all the strange elevations it was difficult to say that the caddie matched the elevations as well as they should but I will have to give him the benefit of the doubt. If you like draws and fades this course has a few of those because of odd hole shapes.
Playing a fantasy course is always a bit of an adventure, you can reach hole # 2 par 4 from the tee and the driver may be a shade long as you cut across but your looking for an eagle to get off to a good start. Hole # 4 is easily reached with a draw driver, that's always a bit of figuring and fun. A few of the holes had tiers that had to be navigated like hole # 14 par 3. I was a little disappointed when he put trees down the center of the fairway on hole # 15, I thought it would be an enjoyable drive or if necessary a flop but I couldn't clear them and had to squeeze down the narrow right side. We were sailing along nicely until hole # 10, a big disappointment, the green I feel was so sloped as to be almost unplayable with the pin placement that I had. I could get up to the pin and roll back 40ft, I could go a little behind the pin and roll back 40ft, at last I landed next to the pin on a flat spot and finished the hole, beta test next time that experience in a regular round can lead to instant deletion.
The records show that Bill has built 19 courses so far and has improved his APCD skills and imagination slowly but they are now to the point were the courses should be as playable as possible. I have reviewed my share of his as have we all and the improvement is obvious. Yes I can say don't build 19 mediocre courses build 9 contenders but this is his enjoyment and our gain when most of his recent efforts give us extra courses to play. He is if not the most prolific of our designers very close to it and I for one thank him for not turning out junk but playable designs. It's a little large for me to tell dial-up users to download it unless they are fantasy fans but it makes for a nice diversion for all of us if the times are slow and they seem to be at this moment. Its nice, playable with the one exception that I had, I would say to try it if you are looking for an semi fantasy.
