LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by

Even though he has done 2 other courses, (4 in all by my count) this course is still the work of an amateur. We begin with a slightly irregular tee box and end with slightly irregular greens with a fringe. Between these two is a mowed fairway without a first cut, a small section of rough followed by a large expanse of pale yellow-green dry grass. This and the garish colored trees tell us that, along with some unusually shaped holes, this remarkably small effort is a fantasy course. The layout of many of the holes and the rough APCD work such as on hole # 4 tells us that the designer hasn't availed himself of the help that is available, either in the 'Designer Corner', the tutorials, or the aid of beta testers. Hole # 4, after your drive you notice that in the top view, the green had sharp edges, the bunkers are too symmetrical and the fairway ends in a 'V' neck, complete with points. Combine this with the soldier like row of reddish-orange trees on the left of the fairway and you have the obvious work of a beginner that has bettered himself since his first attempts but not enough, four courses should show marked improvement.

He did have some interesting elevation change throughout the course and the caddie proved himself to be accurate. The fairways were ample in size and led to some generous distances when I drove, because of this and also the undulations placed where they would do the player the most good. The greens were also larger than medium and under my test conditions were for the most part as flat as a .well lets just say flat. As the course neared the end of the back nine the putting and the greens seemed to show more of their 'teeth' with a few tiers and slopes. The bunkers on the fairways seemed to be there for decorative purposes only since they were small and the fairway large. At the greens the bunkers could have been a problem if placed properly.

He had water and didn't use it to the best that it could have been used; his bunkers and other hazards just weren't a deterrent of any kind. Even though it was a fantasy course many of the holes played like fiction, to me that was the saving of this course. It's not very well made, it's not very attractive but it is playable and not boring like many other 'beginners' courses are, perhaps the elevation changes would account for that. The playability was acceptable but not exceptional, the size ridiculously small. I would say try it because of the size but only do it if you have the extra time to spare. The course isn't a complete loss, only a partial one.

Reviewer Note:
I am a player not a designer and therefore rate a course as a player for other players.
