Background: This is the first golf course Mr. Harding has released to Links Corner under the name J. Harding, but certainly not the first he has ever done. Toppbannana is well known throughout the Links world. He has built and released many golf courses before, but not many of them have been well received. I do not know Mr. Harding personally, but I am guessing he is little bit hard headed. It has taken this many courses for him to finally ask for some help and testing of his courses. I applaud him for finally coming forward and embracing the LC community instead of shying away from it. He has shown some obvious talent on some of his previous courses and just needs to take the extra step to achieve greatness.
Overall Impression: My first impression is that is the best and most beautiful looking golf course that Mr. Harding has ever done. It has very interesting textures and planting. They work very well together and this course is striking at times. There are still a few technical issues unfortunately, but I think I can say without a doubt that Mr. Harding is finally showing improvement in his skills.
Playability: This course is very fun and mostly very playable. There are some severe greens to contend with, but the fairways are mostly generous, the planting not too smothering and the rough not too punishing.
Shot Values: This course tests your game in many ways. There are some easy tee shots and some tough ones. There are lots of slopes and swales to mess up your irons if you are not careful; and there are lots of big pine trees which you have to aim at or away from.
Visuals: Well, as I said above, this course is very beautiful. I really liked the planting on most of the holes with only one or two exceptions. There were some redundant and over scaled plants in places, but for the most part this is a nice course to look at.
Technique: Unfortunately there are still a few technical errors here and there. Some of the bunker lips were finished and some were not. There were still some sharp texture edges and a few bad shadows. I saw one or two floating objects and there was the planting behind the third green which was scaled too big. But in comparison with his earlier courses, Mr. Harding has definitely come a long way. The graphics in this course file are top notch as well. I loved the Hole Previews, tee signs and other things.
Summary: This is a pretty course to look at and an interesting golf course to play. It is just too large a download and has a few too many errors for me to recommend it to slow connection guys, but I definitely recommend it to everyone else. With a few more corrections this could be a top of the line creation. I would suggest getting a few more beta testers around here and smell out those sharp edges and we could have us another top designer!
