LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Joe Turner `Loner' May 2002

I thought I would include just a small part of his brief readme:

Parrot Landing is a fantasy course set on a tropical island-type area. The layout to the holes is fairly basic, but the abundant rock formations, tall palm trees, lush vegetation, and even a waterfall or two will challenge most golfers. It might be a bit tight for you power stroke lovers, but if you bring your "A" game in you can probably have some fun.

I've designed this course with one thing in mind...beauty. Several holes are available to birdies. There's a lot of water on Parrot Landing, but it really only comes into play on the 12th hole where a tee shot that fades left will wind up in Parrot Pool. Several drives over water will give you nice views, and 15 and 16 are elevated enough to give you a good look around.

This was his first course and usually the first course has quite a few errors. Errors not only in the APCD but also in hole shapes and playability as well as aesthetically. I was pleased to see that he didn't have any glaring errors here. This was an excellent design not only for a first time designer but it would have been one for a pro. The colors chosen for the tee box, mowed fairways, large rough, which served as a first cut, and then the heavy rough, as well as the greens were all blended together very well. Being both a fantasy and a tropical course it was splashed with bright colors that made it more of a happy course than the usual beautiful serious one. He has pyramids, hotels, waterfalls, and huts you name it, this was a pure and enjoyable fantasy world that played well.

He varied his elevations well and the caddie and elevations were both well done. Bunkers were placed at strategic places on the fairways and by the greens. The fairway size was less than medium and the greens were small but the bunker placement, the fairway size and the small greens didn't seem to be a problem, they worked their way into the shapes of the holes and made for a different play. He shaped his holes so they didn't seem to be extraordinarily difficult to manoeuvre through and birdies as well as eagles on his 5 pars were not out of the question at all, in fact eagles were a certainly if played correctly on his 5 pars. The only thing that seemed to be difficult but proved itself not to be were all of the 'blind' shots that you would have for your second shot.

Hole # 8, par 5, 551y, a drive to the left center of the large bunker and I was home free, 289y. Now I had only 222y left to the pin. I had a beautiful landing on the small green and one of my many eagle opportunities on the par 5's of Parrot Landing.

Hole # 9, par 4, 323y and a 33ft drop with only palms and rocks to deal with I cut across this dogleg left to the pin. Only one bunker guards the pin and it's in the rear of the green. Using a 3w I was on the green 262y, and only 10.8ft from the cup, this is an eagle hole ripe for the taking.

Hole # 17, par 5, 617y, a drive down the first fairway keeping to the left and after that I cut across to the green with a flop 3w and another excellent chance for an eagle.

I forgot to tell you about the sounds, they are not only unusual but greatly add to the overall ambiance of the course. This course is a fun course; don't forget that when you play it. Don't expect some great strategic holes and risk/rewards its just a well constructed very attractive fun round. He did an excellent job on it and I feel that you will enjoy playing here as much as I did. It's a great diversion from a tough day, not being difficult and giving you some eagles is always enjoyable. I would recommend download even to those that don't like fantasy courses, this isn't as contrived as some others as of late. Play it and enjoy it.

Reviewer Note

I am a player not a designer and therefore rate a course as a player for other players.
