LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Matt Lilly March 2002

Expectations: When I first went to download this course, I couldn't help but notice that there were four releases from Mr. Davis, all on the same day, all of extremely small file sizes. To say I was a bit worried would be an understatement.

Overview: I suppose you could call this a fantasy/parkland course if you want to file it into a neat little category. In all actuality, this course should never have been released. There are more errors than can be counted, although I will do my best to point them out, even if they are blatantly obvious. For starters, a basic knowledge of the APCD has not even been displayed. A quick glance at the pictures in this review should make that apparent. Water hazards are present, but there is no water texture to let you know it. There are holes that cannot be driven off of because the tee has been placed so deep into the ground that the drive cannot get high enough to make it to the fairway. This doesn't even scratch the surface of the graphical errors, where on one shot all I could see was the sky and no terrain. In a nutshell, this course is unplayable.

Final Thoughts: I do realize that all designers must start out at the same point and work gradually towards improving their work. However, this release is unacceptable. I would recommend a good, hearty, beta testing before submitting courses to the public, where testers could point out errors to you before the final release. Or, you could make an effort to improve the design yourself simply by playing it through and jotting down notes. If you are going to release a course, don't you want it to be something that people want to download and is something you are also proud of? Concentrating on one design as opposed to four as a beginner might help as well. In any case, I would recommend checking out one of the many great tutorials at Links Corner for reference if you are unsure of something as well. Cannot honestly recommend.
