LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Chuck Clark

Background: This is the third golf course released to Links Corner by Mr. Krekeler. The first two were called Western Hills and Patriot Hills. I have never played either of these two courses, so I can't tell you anything about them. There is almost no information included in the read-me, just the designer's name and the course type (fictional). So, on to the course we must go.

Overall Impression: This is a tropical golf course set in a real beach-like setting. There are lots of white sand traps, water, sailboats, beaches and palm trees. You feel like you are playing golf on a tropical island in the summer. It was all fairly well done, but not extraordinary. The textures used were stock, the dreaded ocean border (ocean texture to ocean pano) was revealed and the planting so-so. The golf course itself was pretty interesting and fun, but it didn't really stand out for any reason.

Playability: This course was very playable. The fairways were fine, the greens not too severe and the hazards not terribly omnipresent. There were a few small technical issues that could have affected play, but nothing serious.

Shot Values: There were some interesting shots over water here and there, and a few good risk-reward decisions. But there were also some forced lay-up shots and sameness about some holes. Many of the holes had long bunkers flanking the fairways, which seemed a lot alike after awhile.

Visuals: As stated above, this course succeeded at giving you the sense that you were playing a round at the beach. There were lots of bridges used to good affect over the bays and waterways. The planting was a bit skimpy in places but very well done in others.

Technique: This course was generally pretty well done. There were a few sharp edges and such, but nothing that really stood out. There was no first cut around the fairways and the stock textures used made the course look a bit mundane. The areas around the greens could have been a bit smoother and more finished, but nothing was really badly done.

Summary: This is a nice golf course. If you would like a good day at the beach, then give this course a try. You need to take a shower after playing though, to wash the sand out of your hair. It is not a big download, so even slow connection guys should give it a try. It is not the most memorable golf course, but it should be fun for a round or two.
