LINKS CORNER REVIEW |

The rich deep coloring he used on the tee boxes, mowed fairways, roughs, even the greens, fairway fringe (his term) and green fringe made this tropical course extremely attractive to play. On #12 the plane coming in over the green and with its babes on the beaches at #16 and others were better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. The most interesting effect he had were 4 Dolphins playing in the water at the back of the green of # 3. The rock treatments around the water hazard were very well done but I could have done without the 'tool shed' at every tee, speaking of tees they were triangular in shape, to me not very fitting. His choice of sounds made the play most enjoyable, birds chirping, ocean crashing sounds, boat horns and airplanes overhead.
This course had many elevation changes to keep you on your toes and both the elevation readings and the caddie were excellent. The fairways were fair size with a few narrow ones thrown in. The greens, well I would call them medium to small, they varied, as did the slopes, tiers, and undulation. The putting was moderate, far from being unreasonable but not easy. The bunkers were very nicely shaped and done, they weren't overly plentiful but he placed many of them quite strategically. The hole shapes and the hazards that he at times shaped showed more imagination than Bill has done in his 15, yes 15 previous courses.
# 4 hole, par 5, 580y, you can cross the water with a overswing punch but its not worth trying except for fun in practice. Back to reality, I used a 2 iron for 235y in the first fairway and with 313y to the pin a 3w for a rolling 271y left me with a 54y lw to the pin. I was both surprised and disappointed that neither the fairway nor the green bunkers came into play for my second shot.
# 5 hole, par 4, 276y, a big disappointment, when I took a normal drive which looked logical I wound up behind some very tall palms, tall enough that they couldn't be cleared on the first try. I found that the best bet to play this hole was to use a 2 iron of the tee for 226y and then a 245y flop 3w to the green which I two putted.
I've played and reviewed a number of Bills courses and this was by far the best looking and playing. The # 5 hole and #18, which was a five par 602y hole, were both a little disappointing. The fifth as described above and # 18 because a 5 par finishing hole should be the cherry on the ice cream, instead it was a long hole with water to the right, harmless, and not one bunker until you reached the green which had two harmless ones. This is a very attractive looking and sounding course and overall played quite nicely. I did enjoy it even with the exceptions that I've mentioned. It was interesting, well laid out an amazingly small but not barren at all, very complete looking. Would I recommend downloading and playing this course, certainly, it was a thinker at times because of the elevations and very pleasant to play. Could it have been better, yes, if only he would have had it beta tested. Try it I believe that you will enjoy it especially if you play with harsher conditions than I use.
