When the course first came out because I enjoy Bills work I played and enjoyed the recorded round. The 'Included' section seems like the course would be overloaded with 'stuff' but its just the opposite, it makes the course look and feel 'finished'. His mixtures for the tees, fairways, rough and greens are perfect. The types of trees he used seem to be almost crystallized with salt, a very attractive feature for this course. The combination of rocks and small bushes that seem to be continually dotting the course, the water hazards with their tall and wild grass rims, the well made bunkers, the fences, creek and the myriad of other objects make this course an enjoyable sight while you are having an extremely pleasant round of Sunday morning golf.
With the elevation changes he used, the elevation settings and the caddie were more than efficient. The fairways varied between medium and medium narrow and the greens were what I would call medium large, not overly large. The putting at times was a 'walk in the park' and at times you had to stop and think, how am I going to allow for this slope, His use of bunkers was not extensive in the fairways he let the shapes of the holes and creek do the job but at the greens the bunkers were very evident but not overly effective because of the length of the holes. Quite often the driver is taken out of your hands because of the creek crossing the fairway, but the holes were reasonable enough in length to give you a very good chance to make a shot that would be close to the pin.
# 1 hole, par 5, 481y, I went to my 3w of the tee to avoid the creek crossing the fairway 251y, leaving me with only 220y to the pin. I stayed as close as possible to the left side of the fairway to avoid having to try to go over the tall trees on the right, a 2 iron to the green and an eagle hole. Nice way to start a round.
#16 hole, par 4, 339y, I couldn't cut across because of the height of the trees so a draw shot seemed to be the most appropriate choice on this gently curving dogleg left. I placed my aiming stick at 267y and the draw cleared the shorter trees, 282y. Now, with a lw for 43y to the pin this became a birdie hole because of the flat green.
Following a very successful New York Memorial Course Bill showed us a completely different style with this course that was filled with imaginative holes and many water hazards. It is at only 6358y a course that had to be played very thoughtfully because of the club changes. It was quite different from the courses that we have been seeing of late that were either long hitting courses or ones filled with bunkers. I enjoy the water hazards; there isn't any room for error. It is a reasonably small download and I would recommend trying it, I believe you will find it a pleasant diversion from what you are used to.
