LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Course Overview

An old growth kind of look predominates here with a lot of weeping willows planted amongst some very thick underbrush. The water hazards come into play quite often. The Brian Silvernail 'Carolinas' panorama was used and it fits the layout very well. I particularly liked the planting and the cart paths here.

Tips for Playing

This is a fairly good layout for all types of players with the exception of a couple of holes.

There are a few holes that I felt could have been better laid out. From the back tees the 1st hole requires a 270 yard plus carry over water from the back tees. This is a difficult shot because of the narrow landing area. If you do decide to lay up short of the hazard at around 200 yards off the tee, your second shot requires a 240 yard plus carry to reach the green.

I couldn't see the pin from the tee box on the 5th hole. I think that this is a cardinal sin for a par 3 in most cases.

The 6th hole has some trees in the preferred second shot landing area that don't show in the Top View. This was noticeable on a few other holes as well.

The greenside bunkers were placed too far away from the putting surface to be called hazards.

Very fair greens throughout the course until the last couple of holes. You should score well here.

Favorite Hole

I liked the look of the par 3 9th hole.

Overall

This is one of those courses that just misses being very good. The bunkers and water hazards are not quite up to the current level of top notch courses. The points mentioned in the playing tips also prevent it from breaking into the Top 25. I wouldn't have mentioned the things I did not like if it wasn't for the fact that I did like the course as much as I did. A little more work on this one and we'd have had ourselves one very good course. As it is I can still recommend it to anyone who decides to take the time to download it.

This review will be based on playability, aesthetics and originality. Please keep in mind that this is only my opinion following my play-testing of the completed course.

I fully understand the hard work and immense skill that is involved in the designing of these courses and my comments will try to be constructive and without bias.
