LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Textured tee area, mowed fairways, deep dark rough with a contrasting low rough cut, and checkerboard greens. The thick planting of autumn color trees mixed in with dark pines in what looks like either pine needles or mulch for undergrowth make for a very attractive course. He used giant boulders very effectively on #14 hole. Although for the most part his water seemed to be hidden from sight you saw a varied assortment of bridges including a covered one. Unfortunately the mountain was there but the thick trees seemed to distract you from having to gaze upon it once again. The fairways seemed to be ample in size but the greens were a little small and quite often circled by a fairway. It was a little strange looking because the pattern of it made it obvious in the top view.

I found the elevation and the caddie to be very accurate with a few exceptions, which were puzzling, but the overall settings for the course seemed to be acceptable. As I said before the fairways were ample in size and the greens were on the small side. The greens can be pleasers if you get within 10 or so feet. If you do you have a reasonably easy putt but farther than that and the greens start to roll, undulate and slope, for such small greens that can be a problem because rolling a long distance put you back into the fringe or even at times the rough. The bunkers were there but not there, there were so few of them and even those were placed where they couldn't do any harm it was a turkey shoot on the fairways and the greens were wide open if you made a slight error in judgment. An example of this is #4 hole a 637 yard 5 par, perfectly straight, no bunkers, a small water hazard at the green, all in all not very imaginative at all, a driver, a 3w, a sw (to an elevated green), a putt, a birdie. The download was small so that tells you that the trees were not heavily lining the fairway as a hazard.

#13 hole, par 4, 433y, this is a slight dogleg to the left. I had to drive the ball through a 'keyhole' in the trees. I put my aiming stick to the left of the right fairway bunker, when I saw the aiming stick through the 'keyhole' I knew I had a safe drive. 280y later I had 168y to the pin. The caddie gave me a 5 iron, too much club, I opted for a 6 iron and sat down 11ft from the cup.

# 18 hole, par 5, 603y, an 'S' shaped long narrow fairway with a water hazard before the green. With the complete absence of bunkers my drive went 287y. With 308y left I had to lay up with a 2 iron 224y just before the water. An adjusted sw for an 87y shot to an elevated green and without any strategy, a birdie.

To the untrained apcd eye this is a very beautiful course but just much too easy to play, yes the greens could have been a problem if you were a fair distance away but when you are close there should only be slight breaks as he had them. The fairways should have been a challenge with bunkers near the landing areas, and at 7473y there were many opportunities for that. I'm not saying that the course should be littered with bunkers but a few to think about would be interesting. Unprotected greens even small ones should have a few obstacles, the elevation of some was an excellent idea but give me a bunker to fall back into if I judge the elevation wrong. 17.4mb, download it if you are looking for a quick round at a beautiful course but expect an easy round unless you make the conditions windy and fast.
