LINKS CORNER REVIEW |
Reviewed by Joe Turner `Loner'
November 2001
This course had a nice contrast of green used for the tee boxes, fairways (mowed), roughs and greens. The undergrowth was very attractive and gave an open feeling to the tee as well as the fairway areas; it didn't seem to detract from the well done assortment of trees used on this course. The pine needles and the color of sand used in the many bunkers also seemed to match the feelings that you had playing here. The water hazards appeared to be very unattractive in color, the dark, flat lifeless blue was definitely a drawback to the overall beauty here as was the concrete path that ran around a number of the holes, what it's purpose was eludes me because the cart path was asphalt and was dark enough that it didn't stand out.
The elevation and the caddie both seemed to be excellent. The fairways are very narrow but it seemed for some reason it was quite easy to hit them. The putting was in my estimation very easy and this course will give you birdies, eagles and a low putting average. The bunkers didn't seem to be placed where you could get into trouble and the water hazards if played carefully were avoidable also.
6th hole, par 5, 549y with a 21' drop, this hole was studded with bunkers both on and off the fairway but they didn't seem to come into play with my initial drive of 282y, 276y to the flag, they didn't come into play again with my next shot of 256y, which left me a 22y pitch to the pin, watch and allow for the slight elevation of the green, there is also a slight slope to the right. I was a little disappointed to see all of those bunkers not giving me even a slight challenge on this hole.
11th hole par 3, 159y with a 40.6 drop, the caddie handed me a 7 iron when an 8 iron seemed to be an excellent choice. It couldn't have been a better club, 144y drive and a birdie hole.
15th hole par 4, 286y, 285y with a 3,3' drop for me, it seemed too good to be true, my drive was 282y, with 9.6ft to go for an eagle, if I can do it you can.
17th hole, par 4, 422y with a 24.7ft drop, I drove straight up the fairway 282y and had 145y to go, again too easy. I chose an 8 iron and adjusted the trajectory for a little extra loft so that I could avoid too much roll, it landed 3.1ft from the hole, I must be living right I couldn't do that again either.
This is a very attractive course both to look at and to play, the fairways are narrow and the greens are not overly large, under my conditions playing it was a pleasure, too easy, but if the conditions were tightened up a little it too would be an excellent course for tournament or Zone play. It isn't one of the all time best courses but it is one of the better courses I've seen at this size download for a while. It will remain with me for a while and I would recommend it highly to you for your playing pleasure.
