LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Joe Turner (loner)

This contrasting blend of tee boxes, (checkerboard) fairways, interestingly textured rock strewn roughs and well done greens work nicely with the rock treatments around the water hazards, wild life and the autumn colored trees interspersed throughout the course.

A most attractive course that is primarily a deep dark lush green.

The five pars on this course are reasonably easy with the fittingly exception of the 18th, all are definite birdies and some are very possible eagles.

With the majority of the greens being small, club adjustment becomes a necessity not an option so the loft will keep you from rolling off the green

The putting was quite easy and on the 18th he terraced the green to make it more interesting.

The elevations were excellent only to be offset by a caddie that was occasionally off.

4th hole par 4, 276y, if you wish to cut across the hole becomes 230y to the flag. I used a draw 2 iron, I placed the aiming stick just a bit to the right of the green in the fairway to avoid the tall trees and drove to the green, birdie or eagle, depends on your putting prowess.

5th hole 5 par, 542y, I put the ball close to the left of the first right bunker in the fairway, this left me a 249y, shot to the pin, with a 21 ft putt another chance for an eagle. None of the bunkers at the green came into play.

12th hole par 4, 423y, your drive to the right of the fairway will put you behind a 'wall' of rock leaving you 'blind' for your approach shot to the green. The green is not guarded by water or bunkers making it safe to hit.

I had 137y to the flag, not wanting to roll off of the green I used a flop 7 iron, now I had only 12 ft to the cup.

16th hole par 4, 344y, cutting across on this hole was very easy, aiming to the left of the green I had a clean shot of 285y, I landed on the green 47ft away and two putted for a birdie.

Yes you can do it the conventional way and achieve the same birdie but would it be as much fun.

Brent's twisting fairways and skimpy greens that made putting easy, created an interesting but not overly challenging course. With all the water he had on this course it never came into play once and the bunkers were there but not in the way. With the roll on the greens they both could have made for a more interesting game.

A few tiered greens like the 18th and a few twists to the greens it would have been a super course.

I always hesitate to say 'make the greens more interesting' because most new designers go the opposite way and make them ridiculously hard and in some cases frustratingly impossible.

Even though it is a fairly easy course with my settings I feel that it is a worthwhile download and will probably be a challenge under adverse conditions.
