LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Joe Turner (loner)

It's a nice deep green course with a beautiful blend of tee boxes, fairways (which would have benefited if it had a mow pattern), roughs, and greens.

He used an attractive assortment of thick, dark colored trees, wide pano, and appealing treatments around the water hazards.

The elevations were very well done and the caddie seemed to be quite accurate.

The putting was relatively easy if your ball was close to the hole, but the small greens proved to be treacherous if you landed too far from the hole.

The fairways were very narrow and a number of them had hazards and roughs running across them. At times you thought that you might be playing 'target golf'. The patches of roughs that were very well placed at the usual landing spot for drivers made you stop and realize that taking the driver out of your hands is your only option. A thinking game. how nice for a change.

4th hole, par 5, 545y, this hole, with it's long narrow fairway, is separated by a patch of rough from 270y to 310y, thereby forcing you to use a 3w. Because of the 23ft drop from the tee gave me 256y. A 3w to the green was more than sufficient and I was rewarded by a birdie on a hole that I didn't (at first glance) think I was going to par.

6th hole, par 4, 460y, this hole is again separated by a rough which you won't reach with a driver. But you will reach the pot hole bunker just before the rough patch. Now, back to a 3w, and you only have a 200 plus yard shot to the green.

11th hole, par 5, 544y, after taking a normal tee shot, a little over 280y, I cut across using a flop 3w for a 233y shot to the green. This is a definite birdie hole. a possible eagle for better players.

This course, played under my conditions, is somewhat difficult because of the narrow fairways and small greens. Under adverse windy conditions it would be a challenge, quite possibly a course for competition. The fairways will be hard to hit and the small greens will bite you.

Unfortunately the hazards, water, and sand aren't much of a deterrent but you are aware of them.

For general playability I enjoyed my stay at Hillcrest, but even at such a small download I won't be revisiting it. It wasn't that different than other nice course out there. We have too many to choose from and you should have something different to be a keeper.

Would I say play it. yes. Keep it. your call. I wouldn't.
